There's one person with such a huge difference that it dwarfs anything else.

*sigh* I just don't know any of these characters other than Hyrim.

I'd better give a big clue, then. Every one of them is in an SRD short story book.

And Hyrim is
also in an SRD long story book. Is he the only one?

Hyrim is meant to be a red herring, Fist. That difference is still minor.

AH! Hyrim is the only herring in the group????

LOL. If I have to announce it, every dedicated SRD reader will hit his/herself over the head for not seeing it.

Like this?
*thwack*
*thwack*
*thwack*
*thwack*
*thwack*
*thwack*

I think that would be kinda cool, actually. Go ahead and announce it!

So how about just one more little hint .??

It matters which short story book each character is in.

In response to overwhelming nothingness, here is the list again,
Dorian Lorca
Lord Hyrim
Duke Obal
Ryzel
Sher Urmeny
and here is the answer:
The character Dorian Lorca was not written by SRD. SRD edited a book of short stories by other authors: STRANGE DREAMS. Dorian Lorca was the hero of
The House Of Compassionate Sharers by Michael Bishop, one of my favorites in that book.
Now, since I'm no good at judging what will be too hard and what too easy, I suggest someone else take the next game.

Well, I haven't read any non-TCTC SRD.

No thwacks, I'm glad to see.
If you're exclusively fantasy, Fist, I strongly recommend THE MIRROR OF HER DREAMS/A MAN RIDES THROUGH. Huge cast of dynamic characters, complex premises, ravishing writing.

It's not that I'm exclusively fantasy. I
love Hesse and Ayn Rand, for example. It's just that I've always been afraid of trying any other SRD stuff, because I might not like it as much. Actually, I did read DoR, and the fact that I only remember one time moment probably means it didn't do too much for me. But that was 20 years ago, so it wouldn't be a bad thing to try it again.
But at the moment, I have so much on my reading list anyway. Ah well, some day.

Don't take the short stories as an indicator of the rest of his writing. He takes an entirely different mental approach to write short stories.
(And what am I doing touting these on a game thread...?)
