Don't worry Menolly, although I recognised the reference I have no idea what it is.

I know I don't say things clearly...

That's what I meant, Av. Neither you nor Fist have suggested any Martin, and I have never read any either. Which possibly explains why I didn't know the term.

Doesn't the term hedge knight appear in more than just the writing of Martin?

That's why I said "possibly explains," Jenn. But it is not a term I have ever come across before.

But then, the only "medieval" literature I have read is Lawhead's Pendragon cycle... *shrug*

I'm pretty sure that they called the knights in "The Knight's Tale" hedge knights as well. I haven't read any Marin either and yet I am familiar with the term. I know I have come across it somewhere else too. I vaguely remember a short story involving hedge knights. Can't recall the author though.

I know the term "hedge wizard" is a common (ish) one, and while I feel as though "hedge knight" is a more common term than just being in Martin's work, I can't think of anywhere else I've seen it used. A Wikipedia search for "hedge knight" just redirects to Dunk & Egg.

What is "The Knight's Tale," Jenn? I have heard of a movie called "A Knight's Tale," but have never seen it.

Yeah, I tried that too. I've heard it before since I have never read any George RR Martin so it must exist outside of Martin's works.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Martin's short story, 'The Hedge Knight'? Maybe you read it in the compilation 'Legends'? Or possibly the graphic novel adaptation?

I HAVE read Legends! Maybe that's where I heard that before.... Boy oh boy SAIIB, you are soooo smart!

From Canterbury Tales by that English bloke, Chaucer. ;) (Nothing to do with the movie. :D )
