Ahh...I dunno, but from what I had heard, it is as smaller than usual box. I don't remember it well enough to know for sure.
Don't be misled by casket-size. I worked for a mortuary for 5 years, and you'd be surprised how much room is in one of those.

 Not that I have any real experience . . .

Just my opinion, of course, but keeping secrets for the sole purpose of misleading the audience is not sound writing.

I'm still sour about the X-Files. Will Scully and Mulder get together? Oh. They've been sleeping together on and off for years. We just decided not to tell you.
Really? How can you reasonably speculate what was in the Hatch in S1? How can you now reasonably speculate about Jacob? How can you now reasonably expect to speculate what happened to Annie?

I did say, "At this stage of the series". It's amusing to guess about Jacob; that's a different question mark. I don't speculate about Annie because I know nothing about her after the birthday gift. She's simply someone Ben knew that (apparently) did not influence his later decisions.

The mystery of who is in the casket is new, and presented as someone we would know because Jack does. It's also important because of what it does to Jack. If it's a new character, the presentation of him/her is intended to mislead us, and writing aimed at the audience alone is faulty. IMO

Who else would Jack cry over? Yes, he crys all the flipping time, but honestly, who else would he cry over, then call Kate? Sawyer? No. Locke? I doubt it. Sayid? Nah. Hurley? Too small a casket, but doubtful. Juliet? And call Kate over her death notice? No way. Nope, gatta be a person we haven't met yet that is in the box.

I think it is a brilliant mystery the writers gave us and not cheating the audience in the slightest. They know their audience has more than half a brain and are willing to keep asking the question of "who's in the box!?" even if it's someone we don't know yet. This is a long term, multiple use mystery! Every single new person we meet from here on out we will be asking the question "are they the one who ends up in the box?!" Brilliant.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?

Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.

Ah, OK, when you said at this stage in the series, I thought you meant this early, rather than this late.

To each his own, I happen to disagree about the coffin though, because they could drop the hint in the S3 finale, and then introduce us to the character early in S4, and then reveal it's the person in the coffin after that.

Pssst KT, Juliet is female, so can't be in the coffin, since the newspaper article said it was a man

At least WE may finally be playing catchup with you lot! We've always lagged at least 7 or 8 episodes into a season of "Lost". Finally (because our ratings season seems to be February) we can actually PARTICIPATE in episode discussions without spoiling!

hmph, wish they'd do that with "Stargate Atlantis" - hell, they haven't even aired season 3 here yet. I'm buying it on DVD in a couple of weeks time cos I'm sick of waiting for it to screen (and no, i don't have home internet to download/pay for episodes. And I can't do it at work either).

So rewatch S1 and S2, and then rewatch S3 in December when it comes out, that oughta get you through at least a week :D

It is tough, and it's been tough waiting for BSG to return for it's final season also.

Yeah, I've just started watching season 1 again. The girlfriend bought this Lost book that has little bits in a "did you notice" part of the discussion of the episodes. It covers season 1 and 2, so I'm reading it while watching the shows again. But yeah...I'm just ready for Season 3 to come out on DVD so I can watch it again. I've only ever seen any of those episodes once, and I know it will be rich for mining once I get my hands on them.

Feb? So they are taking a 10 month or so break? Why the long break this time and not the normal 4-5 month break between seasons? I had expected season 4 about now...

KT, along with the news that there will be only 3 more seasons, the creators also announced the season formats will only be 16 eps long, each starting in Feb without a break, like the last 16 of season 3.

So, there will be just 48 more hours of Lost.

Aside from the reduced number of episodes per season (They have 3 major plot points to hit, and a plot point per season. People complained about filler episodes, so they said OK, we'll make it tight, no filler/character building) In S1 and S2 people were relentless with their "No reruns, run it like 24, all in a row" whining, so, S3, they tried to do the mini-arc of 6 episodes of a different theme, and then the hiatus, and then the final 16. People whined incessantly about the hiatus. So, since people won't tolerate reruns mixed in, and they won't tolerate a hiatus in the middle, there is no choice but to make the wait in between seasons longer.

..I do not find it difficult or tough waiting thru the hiatus to Feb. I have the surreal and make it it part of my daily existence. Lost is the surreal so it could be said I am LOST....howabout that! Hello Sind, yes, mungonna/ foinbean/ NonDeFonzoPoocarelli here. I think Donaldson's Fatal Revenant is perfectly timed to fill the Lost void till Feb.

Hey there Missing Plane :)
Duh, I shoulda figured when you mentioned Fatal Revenant that you NonDeFonzo, that one totally got by me, you didn't use your usually writing style on the SciFi thread post.

I too would prefer that they run Reruns to stretch out the season. With only 16, that may be a little more difficult, but, with 22, they could've gone
8 new,
8 reruns (including some older eps that pertain to the next set of new episodes),
8 more new,
8 more reruns (including some older ones that pertain to the next batch of new ones),
and then the final 6.
That would give them 38 weeks, so, only 14 weeks without episodes
