I just finished watching the end of season 4 (Turn Left, The Stolen Planet, Journey's End).

Mind. blown.

TOTALLY.

:)

Do you mean, "Sorry to hear about that Donna" or "Sorry to hear about that, Donna? ;)

Probably superfluous at this point in the thread but spoilers below.

Donna was just wonderful. And the ending so sad.

In "Turn Left" I cried when they sent the Italians to the "work camps." And when Rose showed Donna the beetle on her back and then sent her to change what happened.

In "Journey's End" I thought Davros' judgment of The Doctor was unnecessarily harsh and not strictly true in the way Davros presented it:
DAVROS [OC]: Behold your Children of Time.
DAVROS: Transformed into murderers. I made the Daleks, Doctor. You made this.
DOCTOR: They're trying to help.
DAVROS: Already I have seen them sacrifice today, for their beloved Doctor. The Earth woman who fell opening the Subwave Network.
DOCTOR: Who was that?
ROSE: Harriet Jones. She gave her life to get you here.
DAVROS: How many more? Just think. How many have died in your name?
(A lot, and that's just in these few modern series, including River Song and his daughter, although we know better.)
DAVROS: The Doctor. The man who keeps running, never looking back because he dare not, out of shame. This is my final victory, Doctor. I have shown you yourself.
Yes, the Doctor inspired people to act, but they weren't doing it only for him. They were doing it to save so many people, millions in some of the scenarios. It really bugs me that the doctor seems to take Davros' judgment of him as truth and feels the guilt inside himself.

By the same token, I think the Doctor was unnecessarily harsh to the new Doctor.
DOCTOR (speaking to Rose): But you've got to. Because we saved the universe, but at a cost. And the cost is him. He destroyed the Daleks. He committed genocide. He's too dangerous to be left on his own.
NEW DOCTOR: You made me.
DOCTOR: Exactly. You were born in battle, full of blood and anger and revenge. [To Rose, again]: Remind you of someone? That's me, when we first met. And you made me better. Now you can do the same for him.
Too dangerous? Excuse me? The original Doctor wasn't dangerous? He never committed genocide? But we know that's not true. It just seems...too pat. Too...one-dimensional.

That said, I thought this was a wonderful finale. I loved having everyone together. I loved it when they all flew the Tardis together. ("Because you know why this Tardis always is always rattling about the place? It's designed to have six pilots, and I have to do it single handed.")

And I felt inexpressibly sad at the ending. What happened to Donna. The resolution with Rose was both fitting and somehow unsatisfying, incomplete.

And the Doctor left alone again. Really alone, after having everyone in together with him in the Tardis. :(

I can't stop thinking about it.

Seems even a mediocre series of Doctor Who is still guaranteed multiple nominations on the Hugo ballot.

Now, off to watch the new episode...

Might be on before the Classic Pertwee that's on today. Right now (4:50am California time) they are playing Closing time, so, they'l probably play everything in between (Wedding of River Song; Doctor, Witch and Wardrobe; 7.01 - 7.06; The Snowmen) and then repeat last Night's episode, and then the Pertwee Special.

I enjoyed it, Jenna has great chemistry with Matt

Oh, well so much for that idea, Wedding of River Song was next, but, now Torchwood: Children of the Earth is airing.

The paradox of Doctor Who: I enjoy it, but am frequently frustrated by the bad and/or lazy writing.

Me, neither, Menolly. We can commiserate together.

In the meantime, I'm sucking my husband into watch old "new" Doctor Who episodes.

Where are you finding them? I have seen very few of the rebooted series, maybe two of the first new Doctor, tops.

...then again, I haven't seen any Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy episodes either, even though I've met Colin Baker at OmniCon years ago.

Check your Local PBS Station(s). Like Classic Who back in the 1980s and 1990s, some PBS stations are now airing Eccelston/Tenannt episodes or nuWho.

And, those who have Comcast Cable in my area, have had access to them through OnDemand.

Netflix or Amazon probably has Streaming for at least the first 5, if not 6 Seriesof nuWho

Netflix, mostly. Almost all the new Doctor Who episodes through season 6 are on Netflix instant streaming. One that I couldn't find on Netflix ("Planet of the Dead") I found on Amazon streaming.

I haven't watched season 7 of the new Who yet, but my nephew got it on another service that he pays for and I know he and my daughter watched it that way. Or you can buy it from iTunes.

Netflix has some classic Who, as well, but by no means a complete collection.

You can also try the library. My daughter and I have ordered some Doctor Who DVDs for loan from the library.

A worthwhile pursuit, Sarge.

No, I'm not at all obsessed. ;)

You can also stream Season 7 from Amazon.

I downloaded some free Doctor Who videos from iTunes and I have to say that the quality is so much better than streaming.

Getting towards the end of Season 6, so I need to make a decision on how I'm going to view Season 7.

So I ended up purchasing Season 7, part 1 from iTunes. Season 7, part 2 appears to be twice the price (if I recall correctly), I guess cause it's still in progress. The quality for a downloaded video is much better than streaming but I'm not sure if it's worth paying twice the price for it. Price might drop if I wait till after the last episode, I'm thinking.

Sooooo...I've watched all of Series 7, part 1.
Spoiler
Why do the partings of the companions need to be so sad? At least on the modern Doctor Who? At least, I guess, Amy and Rory got to live out their lives together. Not sure I understand why River could go back and see them (she got Amy to write an afterward to the Doctor in that book that figures in the episode) but the Doctor can never see them again.

Until I get my hands on Season 7, Part 2, I guess it's back to re-watching. Or maybe digging up some class Doctor Who episodes I haven't seen yet.

There's always Torchwood, too. I have two seasons of that show under my belt, planning to watch the other two.

And the Sarah Jane adventures are on my to-watch list as well.

So many shows, so little time. ;)
