Holy Cr#p Danlo, that's an awesome pic!
(And damn these image-manipulation times, that I immediately think, hmm.. Green screen? Photoshop? Cardboard theater set?)

I'm in bed right now and damn happy about that. Big work week and now it's Saturday, it's windy and cold outside so I feel justified lying in bed fully clothed - incl. beanie, gloves and scrarf since we don't do heating very well in Oz - with a laptap in my lap, a book to my left, half-drunk coffee to my right and a wee birdy chirpy at the window. I'm wondering whether I'll get up at all today
Perhaps a sauna and spa in a few hours.

I had a very good day. I got a ton of stuff done and my pal Julie played hooky and helped me get it done.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

I was having a great day, till I saw Null's new av. 8O

No, it was actually that I got a venomous hate-message on FB from my teenage niece, with whom my last interaction was to take her out for ice cream... she apparently has heard things from her mom (my sister) and taken them waaaay out of context. I have to say this is a first for my family, which is not an f-word family. So I am very perplexed. :(

EDIT: had a long chat with her on fb and came to something of an understanding. Still, she is young and thinks she knows everything, and that people can fix everything. *sigh*

A nice, quiet day other than that. Haven't had internetz for a few days and it's nice to get back in touch.

This was supposed to be a nice, quiet weekend for me. Batty went home Wednesday and is coming back tomorrow, and I thought, "Ahhh, I have four days with the house to myself! I can clean the place, and get a bunch of writing done, and hunker down in the a/c while the temps are triple digits outside, and it'll be so calming and restful!"

Yeah. Well. First, I found out that the deadline for submitting blog posts for next month's tour is in, like, two weeks. So I set the book aside and started writing those blog posts. Then a friend invited me over to her house last night for dinner and knitting -- that ended up being a 5-hour outing because I lost track of time. Then I remembered I had book club today, and hadn't yet read the chapter. And then an old friend called me on Friday and asked me whether they could drive here today for a visit, and to drop off their 31-year-old autistic daughter so I could take her to the airport for an 8pm flight (so they could get home tonight at a decent hour because they have to work tomorrow)?

Sigh. So much for my calm, quiet weekend at home....

work sucks. getting rashes/bruises? on my legs when i wear my boots to work.

and no else seemed to have done a damned thing at work this past weekend. so i had to track the major down, get his pass key and get my captain's keys...

so i could get the spices and tea sweetner that are supposed to be set out for me on friday.

to do the soap pulls that are the commisary manager's job.

to clean the kitchen because we have two inspections on monday.

and to correct the menu because no one seems to be proof reading the damned thing.

and because of some rain in the morning i was barely able to walk all day.

work sucks...

Effy, I think it blinds people, too.

A week holiday started for us today. We hadn't planned a trip of this one-we have four more weeks of holiday to go this summer. We had planned driving up the coast and a few other things within a day drive, but my husbands back injury he got last week is really bad still. He can barely stand, sit, lay down... it is all extreme pain. I feel bad for him, but there is nothing to do but hope it heals soon.

As the reigning queen of back pain a few things worked for me

Get an inversion table and hang upside down for three minutes 3 times a day.

Miranda Edmonde's back exercise video was very helpful.
www.classicalstretch.com/backpainprevention.html

And push through it. It was not easy, let me tell you. I was in such pain I would scream for hours on the floor unable to move. But I took a painkiller and pushed through it and forced myself to walk. 100 yards, 200 yards just kept going. Not not easy. I am up to three miles now. (with no painkillers)

Lastly get an epidural. God bless steroids.
The loudest truth I ever heard was the softest sound.

This post is mostly for aliantha.

So.... I bought a pair of knitting needles the other day. And a ball of yarn.

I haven't knitted since I was a kid and had totally forgotten how. Tried a few youtube vids. I am both left-handed and kind of spatially-dyslexic, as in I really struggle to copy what someone else is doing with their hands and feet. Dancing is okay as long as I'm following my own 'style' and not trying to execute someone else's choreography. Anyway, I digress. Just wanted to say it took me half an hour to figure out how to do a slip-knot and another half hour swearing at youtube videos to learn how to cast on. The knitting bit I got the hang of okay (something must have stayed in my muscular memory), but if I make a mistake I have no idea how to fix it, apart from ignoring it or starting all over again. <-- I did this when I accidentally started knitting with the tail end of the wool.

Needless to say, my first project is a cat blanket. (I'm hoping they're not too fussy about dropped stitches, inconsistent tension and other assorted stuff-ups.)

In conclusion, "Guess what ali? I've started knitting and it's fun!"
Got any good basic website suggestions for a noob?

- Shaun,
who will soon be able to put her wooly coat to good use.

Good luck with your knitting, Shaun!

I started knitting again after a long period of not doing it and find it enjoyable. But I currently lack a project, so haven't knitted recently.

And that picture of a knitting Shaun is just adorable. :)

Thanks MsMary. I look forward to the day I can have 'projects' too, as in, be able to knit something other than a straight block of stitches :D Expect many ignorant questions from me!

And yeah that is a cute pic eh.

Has he seen a chiropractor about it at all?
Yes, he went to a specialist last thursday. He was told he had inflamation between two vertebrae and to take things slow. Once he is able to move again, he will go to a body therapist thingie twice a week to retrain how to move properly and strengthen his back since this is not the first time he injured this.

And, thank you, lorin, for the tips! I will tell him about them.

Sounds more like an orthopedist than a chiropractor, Ananda, with plans to see a physical therapist. Try to see if there is a chiropractor he can see as well. They have a very different approach to treating back pain.

He has gone to a chiropractor in the past last time he hurt his back. For whatever reason, he didn't want to see one this time. Do you think there is a benefit to that method vs the other?

Saw something funny and annoying today. At the end of 2010, we made a website for a car care franchise that is part of an international chain. There is a corporate site and each franchise can have its own site. The one we made eas for three local locations. This site got site of the year for their internal company thingies. Today, I saw that another location franchise stole the design, the graphics and all the text word for word from the site we made! It isn't legal of course and the owner of the site we made is contacting them. Was nice to see they liked our work enough to hire another company to steal it, though!

Shaun, that's so cool! I mean, warm. ;) The cats won't care what it looks like. And yeah, *every*body knits with the wrong end of the yarn at some point. Feel free to ask me dumb questions. Are you on Facebook?

MsMary, if you'd like, I could send you one of *my* projects. I've got yarn set aside for 4 sweaters, 1 baby sweater, and 4 pairs of socks. Oh, and another summer top; a friend just gave me some cotton yarn she bought on sale.... Aieee. Socks next, I think, and then that baby sweater.

Oh, and I think I forgot to post a picture of my finished Wingspan shawl here. Hopefully the pic isn't too big for the page...
