Very sad, Deer. I really feel for you and your pup. I can't imagine going through that alone. On a related subject, please make sure you and your other pets are safe. You should get them shots asap.deer of the dawn wrote:Today bumped one of my former Top Ten Worst Days Ever off the list. Got up at 6 to find Shep, one of our dogs, in his death throes. Since not even a dog should die alone, I sat with him... for almost 8 hours, until the vet came and euthanized him. He was struggling for breath the whole time and leaking from every orifice and it was not pretty. And I was alone with him for a chunk of that time.
It's our own fault because we failed to get him his rabies shot last year and he died of dumb rabies (marked by creeping paralysis and foaming at the mouth, but no terror or aggression).
The other dog, Lily, is depressed. She's known Shep is sick and now she's alone for the time being (the cat has never forgiven her for breaking his leg).
My husband traveled 12 days out of 30 this month. He's been offered a promotion which would keep him closer to home but he declined because he likes what he's doing. I think I'm going to start praying he changes his mind. Being alone with a dying dog really really really sucked. I couldn't even get Bob on the phone because the network is lousy lately.
I'm going to the Hug Thread now.
Done. Never want to go through that again.lorin wrote: Very sad, Deer. I really feel for you and your pup. I can't imagine going through that alone. On a related subject, please make sure you and your other pets are safe. You should get them shots asap.

well, that's a way to pique curiosity...sorus wrote:I don't think this week could possibly get any weirder. Whether or not that's a good thing remains to be seen.
