A quite...non-flattering start to the day.

A small group of ten-something-year-old boys from the same countryside neighborhood gathered on the bus stop just opposite of mine. One shouts across the road, "Are you a man or a woman?"

Must've seen me standing there tens of times. Can sort of understand why this occurs frequently online, but IRL? Not as if I work in the local PT Barnum's show or anything.

Ah, don't worry, some people won't recognize a woman with a spyglass, their problem) And if they feel such a need to look witty, their problem even more. I actually enjoy much of the questionably flattering talk about me - if someone whose opinion I don't respect says something against me, it counts as a compliment) And I often comment on myself in similar ways, I think I don't need to look or be taken for a normal person more than required not to get into actual trouble.

I'd rather reply with something fun, like "Actually, an alien transvestite and cannibal, would you like to meet in the evening?". Or "Right, a man or a woman". Or just "Thanks for the compliment!". The latter may particularly cause fun face expressions)

I don't think this week could possibly get any weirder. Whether or not that's a good thing remains to be seen.

Frostheart, when you had
Photos of self in Album
Gender not in doubt

Of course, I'm not ten
But even at that young age
Would not make that goof

not much reportage going about here.

Houston in the AM to take care of Julie's mom for a bit while her sister/brother-in-law go to their lake house. they had flooding. so lawyers, repair folk, insurance folk.

hoping for a visit to the comic book store.

will finish chapter III of the Hunger Games (Mockingjay) so need to grab another book to start.

writing lots and lots. the Gomer Black updates, the Catho-Ray diaries. and transposing the dreck I wrote some twenty years ago. (Her Memory Clouds)

feeling better, able to keep food down.

and we went to the Historical Museum of Angleton. they unvieled some wonderful old photos. (trying to get a copy of the 19teenish Angleton Men's Baseball team)

it was a soiree to get the hundreth year of Angleton festivities started. we nabbed an exclusive invite.

met our mayor (julie knows him) and our state rep, Dennis Bonnen. his dad was Julie's judge for at least a decade. hobnobbin!!!

hoping to attend a Houston fanzine day led by my good friend Shane. have some cool fanzine ideas.

I have been promoted :letsparty:

Found out last week, on holiday in Spain, that I had been successful in the selection process for a hall managers post.

Don't know if it will be in the same prison, but I think it will, or which hall, but should take up my new post sometime in Oct/Nov.

Only bummer is that I will probably have to go back onto shifts rather than a mon-fri. But that depends on which post I get.

Today bumped one of my former Top Ten Worst Days Ever off the list. Got up at 6 to find Shep, one of our dogs, in his death throes. Since not even a dog should die alone, I sat with him... for almost 8 hours, until the vet came and euthanized him. He was struggling for breath the whole time and leaking from every orifice and it was not pretty. And I was alone with him for a chunk of that time.

It's our own fault because we failed to get him his rabies shot last year and he died of dumb rabies (marked by creeping paralysis and foaming at the mouth, but no terror or aggression).

The other dog, Lily, is depressed. She's known Shep is sick and now she's alone for the time being (the cat has never forgiven her for breaking his leg).

My husband traveled 12 days out of 30 this month. He's been offered a promotion which would keep him closer to home but he declined because he likes what he's doing. I think I'm going to start praying he changes his mind. Being alone with a dying dog really really really sucked. I couldn't even get Bob on the phone because the network is lousy lately.

I'm going to the Hug Thread now.

Very sad, Deer. I really feel for you and your pup. I can't imagine going through that alone. On a related subject, please make sure you and your other pets are safe. You should get them shots asap.

Deer, I don't even know what to say. I cried when I read your post.

Sorus, weird eh? I had the weirdest dream of my life last night. You were in it. I'll post about it in the dream thread.

Phantasm, congrats, everyone else, sorry I've been so absent. I've been working like a madwoman, booking serious overtime and too tired to function when I'm home.
