Hello!
I just finished rereading the first Chronicles again after many years and am happy to find a group to discuss it with. There was no internet the first time!
I'll do my best to not stink the place up.

Be Welcome to the Watch, Kalkin.
Be Well Come and True.
Ohio, eh?
I wonder if the Gators and Ohio State will play for a national championship anytime again soon...

Possible, but the outcome would likely be the same.
I, and my beard, thank you for the welcome!

Welcome to the Watch. Don't mind the crazies, they're mostly harmless.

Yeah, at risk of showing my (considerable) age, there was no internet the first time I read them either.... although I do remember BBS's and PODS and such... lol

There are those of us who pre-date the internet here.

For that matter, there are those of us here who nearly pre-date dirt...
In the words of another member, much beloved and known for greeting every newcomer,
Be Well Come and True!

Actually that was duchess, or possibly Skywier, who fist came up with that greeting here...but in any case I definitely predate the internet too...

Sorry, danlo. As a n00b of the year nominee, I have to admit to not knowing all the history. To me, Menolly is the Watch's unofficial Greeter-in-Chief, but thank you for the longer-term perspective.

Predating the internet? Most of us here do, really.
Predating the personal computer? Now
that's something.
(I don't go
that far back, but I can recall the days when the Commodore 64 was an exotic machine.)

*pretty sure I predate the personal computer*
danlo's correct SD. I stole the greeting from someone, pretty sure it was Duchess.
But I did change it slightly, making it my own by changing the second welcome to Well Come...

My first computer had a cassette player for memory.

OK, I will go there.
My first computer (not possessed by me, used by me) had punched cards for memory. Gates, Woz and Jobs were still in school...as was I.

One of my first jobs was making vacuum tubes.
