Just finished Steven Erikson's Forge of Darkness.

Strong beginning. Even stronger middle. But a somewhat weaker and anticlimactic ending. For all of its flaws, still a fascinating read for Malazan fans.

Check out the blog for the full review.

Maybe I'm just too aware at this stage that a hero in fantasy is basically someone who kills lots of people but doesn't get killed himself/herself.
Try the Troy books, if the others are too fantasy for you.

I'm reading Hamilton's Reality Dysfunction, since I just picked up the 2nd and 3rd book.

I hate the way this series ends, but the rest of it is so good...want to try again and see if it makes up for the ridiculous part.

I'm reading Connie Willis' Blackout. I'm probably a little over half-way through. It's really awesome. I'm looking forward to All Clear.

Reading The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany and Crack'd Pot Trial by Steven Erikson before going on a latino literature binge.

The Mongoliad. Stephenson would be enough for me to get it, but Bear on board makes it so much better.

Done with Baxter's Northland vol I as well and KS Robinson's Icehenge.

^My favourite of the trilogy, Av.

I'm maybe halfway through Reaper's Gale. Things are heating up nicely.

So I just finished C.E. Murphy's Coyote Dreams and am kicking myself because I didn't bring the next book in the series with me to work. These are pretty good. 8) It's an urban fantasy series. The main character is a mechanic with the Seattle Police Department, but she's also a Cherokee shaman.

I got the first four from a friend. I think I'm gonna have to hunt up the newer ones for the Nook.

Bleh...the universe is so awesome...why did he have to choose that premise or whatever you want to call it.

I've been reading Tyranny of the Night by Glen Cook. Not bad, once you get past the first 50 pages or so. Wayyyy too much political mumbo jumbo for me, and the editor in me cringed several times, but once he settles into the story, it's alright. I think Cook could run one hell of a GT game.

Which premise do you mean?
Spoiler
The star destroyer? Or the dead-return-to-possess-the living?
Just to be contrary, I liked both :P . It was the ending I found weak.

7 chapters into The Wise Man's Fear (first book on Kindle and I'm already an addict :P)...loved Name of the Wind, took a little while for the story to click back in, but the 2nd book is, now, moving faster and faster. 8) 8) 8)

Yeah, took me a little to remember what the heck was going on. But it all came back soon enough, and WMF was great!

The dead possessing the living, although in general I could live with that. But the ghost of Al Capone...I mean...C'mon.
It's been a long time since I read Book 3 (will start it tonight), but I seem to remember wanting more about the
Spoiler
star-dwelling life forms
than we got.

(Oops...that must have been a different series.)

That's just about how it usually goes.

You guys would really enjoy his post-Nightfall serieses. More universe. Less corny premises.

Well, I'm on The Naked God now.

Yeah, I remember you recommending that to me before WF. (Probably the last time I complained about it. :D )

Will definitely look for them.
