Concert is still scheduled for Nov. 1st with replacement bands.

That sucks. Never seen B.O.C. live, but I'd like to.

B.O.C. was a good show. Saw them in.....Gahhhh, '82....Aldo Nova opened for them. Saw them again a few years later at a small club in DC.

Good show. Not a great show, but a good show.


Speaking of Billy Squire....He put on a really good show. Saw him with Ratt, saw him with Def Leppard.

Got to see Blue Oyster Cult back in the early 1980s,
with Heart, U.F.O., Firefall, and Cheap Trick.
A great show it was at the old Tampa Stadium.

Around the same era, seen The Who in Orlando.

I quit counting how many concerts I've seen after about 40.

I've never seen The Who live. Would like to one day.

Don't they call them "The Two" now?

I'm not sure I'd like to see an old man in a raspy voice try to imitate Roger Daltrey's amazing pipes (even if that man is Daltrey himself), and two other guys try to imitate one of the most iconic and influential rhythm sections in rock history. But I guess Townsend is still okay.

We got their recent Quadraphenia concert Blu-ray. It's depressing to watch.

Yup. I felt that way in '89 when I saw The Who and the Stones.......and that was 25 years ago.

"The Who" should have hung it up years ago. Decades, even.

That applies to a lot of other bands too. Probably too many to list...

In all my years I've only been to two live concerts. Moody Blues in Southampton 1971, and a concert at Lincoln Castle about 10 years ago that featured the Blues Band formed by Paul Jones, lead singer of Manfred Man. But the Four Tops (or it could have been the Temptations, I always got them mixed up) played at my college in 1970 so I suppose that counts too.

found out that Dennis DeYoung is playing Houston in January. Julie is a huge fan. we saw him with the Houston Symphony a few years back.

promises the songs of Styx this time out, though he played plenty last time.

I saw Ben Folds with the Symphony Orchestra last night, and really enjoyed it.

I've only bought one of his albums (Rockin' the Suburbs, 2001) and it was not bad. I bought a couple more to study up on the concert, and they were ok, not great, but his talent definitely comes through. He pretty much wrote and performed all the songs on Rockin' the Suburbs - and all instruments too.

The concert was great. He is an exceptional piano player, and gave some good introductions to some of the songs. There was a lot of crowd interaction (he got us to sing a 3-part harmony to one of the songs), he made a song up on the spot, and basically went through the entire orchestra, giving them parts to play, then put it all together. And it was very impressive. The orchestra looked very nervous because they're used to playing to a score, and rehearsing, but they're obviously professional musicians so of course it was fine.


All in all, a concert that I thought would be ok, but it was actually great.

I want to see Fleetwood Mac in Houston next year, unlikely though.

more and more bands are skipping Houston altogether. many play Austin, but that is four hours away.

I got to see Adrian Belew last night with the Power Trio at a tiny theater in Cinci. We drove up early and got in line with only a handful in front of us, so that we managed to sit right on the front row! My son was blown away. He said, "He kept looking at me!" And I told him, "Yeah, Adrian's probably used to seeing lots of pretentious old farts at his shows, but few teenagers." We probably looked like idiots, with big SEGs (the last letter stands for "grins," you can figure the rest out yourself ) on our faces the whole time. Pure joy, that's the only way to describe it. Adrian was like a little kid himself, clowning around with his favorite toy. As a burgeoning musician, my son had a life-changing experience, one of those that stick with you your whole life. I went in knowing what to expect, but it still made quite an impression on me, too. The intimacy combined the mind-blowing musicianship--to be that close to manifest genius--was like being in the presence of a prophet or holy man. It was damn near religious.

Belew puts on a good show. I saw him way back when at the old 9:30 Club in DC (back when it was the size of a port-a-pot and smelled like one too).

Belew would be great to catch live (unfortunately never have...)

That was the last show of the tour. I didn't even know he was on tour. My wife saw something about it in the local paper, so we made an impulse buy and made the trip. I highly recommend catching him on the next tour, whenever that happens. I don't think I've had as much fun at a show in a very long time.
