Well, I don't know about Io's stance concerning young adult books, but I have nothing against those (in fact, took a break from Malazan and got entirely hooked to the
Skulduggery Pleasant series...now have a good hunch as to what the Giants in the AATE audio book would sound like). I've read the first three Aching books maybe 3-4 times and even during the previous round, couldn't avoid bursting into hysterical laughter every once in a while.

I Shall Wear Midnight, however, felt rushed and inconsistent, but I fear Pratchett's Alzheimer has seriously affected his later books.

Enjoyed Dodger, tho, which is another Pratchett YA novel.
The Death series's another excellent read, and Discworld's Grim Reaper doesn't slip well into the stereotypical evil pale rider mold.

Up to the point where Granny Weatherwax treats him with chiropractic.

Io isn't bothered by "young adult" - Potter and Narnia - I love them. Going to see if I can get e books though, as we already bought my kindle (found one on offer last week) but I can't use it until I open it at Christmas

'The Twelve', by Justin Cronin. The sequel to 'The Passage'. I liked it a lot, the plotting and orchestration of many characters towards an explosive climax reminded me of 'A Dark and Hungry God Arises'.

Meh...just read it...not bad, but I would have preferred another Discworld book instead.

Nah, I'm about halfway through it. Too much gaming.
Not bad, but overall I enjoyed GMT more. Gonna have to look for the intervention books too now.

Over halfway through Cloud Atlas and at a part where one shouldn't be sick while reading. The far future Hawaii part--dialect tough to follow while sick and you wonder when climaxes and great revelations will be coming and it's good, then bad and kind of like Linden in the last Chrons--Zach'ry getting too cute and you're tired of what's going on in his head...but the faster one reads the better the flow. Unfortunately, when I'm sick, I tend to dwell on stuff and then fall asleep. I expect the book and my health to get much better by the end of the week.
Looking forward to starting Beyond the Event Horizon--read three chapters on Kindle sample and it looks SO dam cool.

I hope both do! Yeah, the book does kind of really roll along after that part. You have the hard part (if you could call it that

) done.

Reading comics last couple of days:
Locke & Key vol 1: Welcome to Lovecraft, by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, was excellent. Very much enjoyed it and liked the art style; I've ordered the next two volumes.
The Unwritten vol 2: Inside Man, by Mike Carey and Peter Gross, was less immediately engaging. I'd been underwhelmed by the first volume, but gave it another chance - Inside Man is better, but still something isn't quite grabbing me about this one. Oddly, I think it might be the style of speech bubbles and lettering putting me off - it does kind of stand out too much against the artwork. I think it's digital rather than handwritten.

Hope you feel better soon Danlo.
Currently reading Wicked, Geoffrey Maguire.
Before that, Hyperion, Dan Simmons.
Before that, The Riddle-Master of Hed, Patricia A. McKillop.

All good choices.

The last couple of chapters of
Wicked messed with my head.

Does it... bring the house down?
Remember to tip your waitresses! Not the waiters, though... they should be digging ditches like men did back in my day!:x

About 70% done with The House of Chains. The series is excellent and quite a few pieces clicked together during the 3rd volume, rendering it less of an effort to read onwards, but seems I'm advancing with a speed much below the average. Maybe I just lack the mental capacity to process all the parallel storylines.

Also perhaps some significant part of my brain's too busy fangirling Icarium and Karsa.
Would be interested in some light-hearted/YA mid-reading recs: I doubt I'll be able to jump straight off to Midnight Tides after this. Don't recall anymore who recced it and to whom, but I discovered the
Skulduggery Pleasant series via this board, listened to the whole lot between Memories of Ice and the present Malazan brick, and enjoyed it a great deal. Sanderson has a new novella out, yet I doubt that'll fill the gap completely.
