Jenn, you can wake up tomorrow secure in the knowledge that it's Friday and you won't have to work the weekend.

I'll be going down to Florida for a few days around New Year. My college is the BCS buster, so I figured it would be neat to go down for a few days visiting and go to the game in Miami.

Fed up!

We had an invitation from our Member of Parliament to attend a two hour "meet the local charities" sessions at the Cathedral this afternoon so I went with the Hon. Secretary. I even had to buy some new clothes as I had nothing suitable to wear. We arrived on time, stood about for a while then were given drinks (orange juice, but wine was available) and went upstairs. I saw our MP arrive, and once in the distance just before we left. had a difficult conversation through the noise of about 50 people talking in a small room with a couple of very nice young men who were from the First Responders, and spoke to a couple of other people that we knew and that was it. Complete waste of time.

On Wednesday the washing machine started chugging, and the drum made an awful noise when I spun it so I rang for a repair man this morning. One year guarantee (I thought it was two years!) run out so I had to pay call out charge £120 and arranged for him to come on Tuesday. Got home this evening to find that C has pulled one of my bra wires out of the drum (don't you dare laugh) and it is now working perfectly!! Now have to cancel repair man and rearrange a years cover without the call out charge.

My MIL died a week ago. :(

It's been hard, especially for my hubby.

Very sad about the massacre in Connecticut. 28 dead, 20 kindergartners.

I hope these families can someday find peace.

May the Light of Hanukkah and the Peace of Shabbes bring comfort to the families and communities affected.

Progress report: Work is half done installing extra coving in the bedroom to cover the very rough area between wall and ceiling. While that was going on, I took the time to build my new desk.

Nice desk Murrin. I was going to go to Sears and get some new work pants and sweaters because my only remaining pair of work pants that I like have gotten so threadbare that you can see the floor through the material in places. BUT then I realized it's a Saturday less than two weeks before Christmas and the mall would be a strange and terrible place of high anxiety and rude shoppers so I decided I'll just have to wear my pleather pants to work until I can do some shopping mid day on Wednesday when it won't be quite so overwhelming at the mall. Turns out that it was a good decision because my roomie actually was at the mall I was planning to go to and she said it was a horrible madhouse.

That's looking good, Murrin.

We ordered our hall, stairs and landing carpet today, and they promised it would be fitted by the 12th January when we have our anniversary party. The new front door makes the hall look bigger, lets in more light and there are no more draughts so that should keep the heating bill down.

It was gratifying to learn that the lady who took my cancellation this morning for the washing machine mender no longer needed had exactly the same problem as me. I have bought a bag to put certain items in before they go in the washing machine!

It's been raining all day today. Blah.

Going to be a quiet night. I'll have some gorgonzola with olives and a glass of pinot grigio for an appetizer. Left over pasta with italian sausage added to the sauce for the main course.

Probably will play some Guild Wars 2 afterwards.

Burning the candle at both ends. ;)

Off to see The Hobbit this afternoon. It's been a long time coming.

Sorry for your loss, MsMary, and lorin, whatever made you delete...

I cannot even think about the kids in Newtown (not too far from where I grew up). :(

Church was great this morning, rocked with my daughter. Played O Holy Night (a la REM, "Everybody Hurts") and she really sang it out. Then the Chaplain spoke about a whole raft of bad stuff that's been happening... the point being that Jesus came to earth not because everything was great, but because of all that crap. Good message.

Still wondering how the Governor of Kaduna (the state north of us) went down in his helicopter last night.

Speaking of burning the candle at both ends: Yesterday, I got the Yule tree, then brought it home and set it up and decorated it. Then I finally started on the scrapbook of the Danube cruise that I'm giving to my friend for Christmas. Got that done -- at 4:30am. 8O Set my alarm for 11am because I had to spend all day today making cookies to give to my attorneys. The cookies are done (except for the meringue ones, which will be done in the morning) but I burned the spiced pecans. :( I'll have to get more pecans tomorrow and try again.

Still need to finish the shopping (although all I need is a couple of gift cards, which I can get at the grocery store) and wrap the gifts. But I'll get it all done by Friday.

Bedroom ceiling painted. First coat, anyway. Still a wall to do, that'll probably take a couple coats as well. Likely won't be moving in until after Christmas now.

Perhaps this should be in the shaking fist thread. Spent most of the evening bookmarking a PDF marriage index and happened to spot that some of the dates were incomplete. Checked the original excel file and the dates are there but they're not there when I go to print preview! So I've widened the date column and will start all over again in the morning. Oh happy days. I'm off to bed.
