'Fraid not, Io. I'm flying Aer Lingus out of Dublin to Toronto on Tuesday. I won't be getting into Albuquerque until Wednesday afternoon (I have a layover in Toronto). (I'm going via Toronto as I'm visiting a friend on the way back.)

We'll just have to wait and meet up at lorin's b'day party at Cochina Azul on Wed evening :letsparty:

Never mind U, just clutching at straws. The nearer the time draws the more nervous I get about travelling on my own.

One time, years ago, I got fed up. I bought a one way ticket to Spain, with no hotel and not knowing anyone and not speaking Spanish. It was one of the greatest adventures of my life as I worked my way through Iberia. Traveling alone forces you(me) to be friendly and extroverted, something that does not come easily to me.

Do not worry. Someone will be at the airport to meet you and aside from the accent, you won't have a language barrier. Also you are not going to the evil airports - jfk, boston, los angles or chicago. My suggestion is you go right to the ticket counter and tell them you are a novice traveler. They will help you.

My suggestion is time. Leave lots of time. If you estimate 2 hours for customs and boarding, double it and allow yourself 4 hours. You do not want to be stressed while traveling. Bring a good book, snacks (airport food is more expensive than gold), if you have a tablet/laptop bring it, wireless is free, some aspirin in case of headaches, and most of all an inflatable travel neck pillow. Trust me, your best investment.

Getting close to the date, aren't we?

One step closer, yesterday. I put a hold on my mail with the post office.

I'm excited, but at this point before a long trip I'm thinking of things I have to do before I go. So, I'm worrying about that.

This is turning in to an event!!

Will everyone who plans to attend the birthday celebration be in town? I saw this as dinner around 5:30 on Wednesday. According to their website, Cochina Azul closes at 8:00. Shall we plan on moving to one of the hotels to continue socializing?

Now I'm sad to be missing the birthday dinner. :( Ah well.

It was awesome to talk with Jenn & danlo last night. Can't believe it's nearly upon us! :) Just gotta get through the rest of this week first....

Thanks Lorin. You are brave! I am good at talking to strangers, they will probably wish I would shut up! :D I'm just bringing my kindle and moblie phone. Don't have anything else in that line. It's the actual airport thing that gets me. However, I will take your advice and pretend I am a helpless old lady. I will get to Heathrow at 6.30 am in time for the 9.30 flight and a friend has advised where to get breakfast. I only have two hours at Dallas Fort Worth but getting through the security, having my eyeballs and fingerprints done, plus possibly having to find my luggage etc. is worrying me no end. Lots of people over here have told me lots of things hoping to ease my way. I think I will just take things as they come and hope that everything turns out right in the end. I shall be so glad to get to ABQ. I arrive at 4.30 and birthday celebrations begin at 5.30? Talk about in at the deep end. I need to put on my party frock first! I never wear make-up so it won't take me long. :D

As far as party frocks go, Cochina Azul is a very casual place. IIRC, I wore t-shirt and jeans when I was there last time. But I can understand wanting some down time after arriving.

We could probably still get a good meal in if we arrive at 6:30 instead, but I don't want us to feel rushed either, which may happen with the size group it sounds like we're going to have. Of course, those of us there earlier can still meet at 5:30 and give the wait staff a head's up regarding the expected size of the party, and others can join us as schedule permits.

What, not wear my party frock, after all this dieting???? It's a long time since I've been able to wear one, so I jolly well will. I have a not so party frock, that will do. I'll be as quick as I can when I arrive. :D

Please save your best frock for Saturday's dinner with SRD. While I suspect not everyone will dress up, there is no more suitable occasion.

:goodpost:

I won't go as fancy, but I really dressed up for the dinner with SRD at the first 'fest I attended.

Since the link Menolly provided is not to one of my favored pictures of her, here is a link to what she (as well as Waddley, Orlion, and I) wore to the last Elohimfest dinner.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but neither photo represents her current hair color...

I was going to save my bestest frock for the dinner anyway. I'm bringing two. :D I loved the pictures.

I've tried texting a couple of the numbers provided (lorin and Jenn), the messages sent but I've had no response as yet. Anybody get anything?

Looks like I won't be wearing a cast to NM after all. Instead, I'll be sporting a white, shriveled, near-useless arm. Yay!

But seriously ... Should I come prepared for a game of Win Wayfriend's Money Live?

And if so, what formats do you suggest? I'm thinking Chronicles Jeopardy, but that won't fly without enough people being interested.

Win Wayfriend's Money Live, Chronicles Jeopardy, Who Wants to be an Unbeliever, Andelainian Idol, etc. sound good to me.

Just connected with SD by phone. He greeted me by my first name which was really cool! (and he didn't make one melon or squash joke, which was appreciated but strange  )

Texting seems a bit fraught across the different providers, so it looks like we're going to have to do it the old-fashioned way.

lorin and Jenn, I'll probably try your numbers over the weekend or closer to the event itself. At this stage I have two points of contact and I know where we're gathering on the Wed night, so one way or another I should be able to meet up with people.

Albuquerque here I come!

I'm in.

I'm glad to learn that U. has a first name. I was not looking forward to addressing him by his KW name at all. ;)

Yeah, the name thing has been on my mind (not just my name, but others as well). Talking with SD, it felt very strange to address him as Savor Dam. While that's all I've ever called him on the Watch (where it feels natural) in RL it felt like a really odd thing to be doing.

Are there any Watchers who insist on being called by their Watch names? If they do I might insist that they address me by my full name
