He didn't have the courage to do it face-to-face?
And congrats on the library job, Balon. . . I'm envious.

Sorry to hear that, Chrys. Hang in there.
Congrats again on escaping the hellhole, Balon!
We're fine. Magickmaker swears she's started her homework.

I used a gift certificate to get a small HDTV/DVD player combo, which showed up today. Got zero reception on it; had to go to Best Buy for an antenna (as I'm too cheap to give a monthly fee to Comcast for access to the 5 or 6 channels I'm ever likely to watch

). So I finally got everything up and running, and what's the first thing I tune in? Oprah!

My eyes have pretty much stopped burning....

hugs for Chrys!
Yay! for Balon (ya know, I always wanted to work in a library but here in Oz, at least, you need to have a degree in librarianshipism...or what ever it is...so...I got an archaeology degree instead!

). Let us know how it works out, bud!
I'm over 2008 so thank goodness it's 2009 in just over 5 hours.
I actually got a tad bit depressed over the whole "I'm 35 now" thing. Suddenly I feel like I'm on a downward spiral to inevitable carking it...or something like that. But, well, I've got no control over that so...
...I'm having some New Years Eve drinkies and planning on making 2009 a brilliant one! I've got a list of things I intend to achieve next year, and since I did a good job at doing undoable things last year (my trip to the wonderful US of A being the highlight) I'm pretty optimistic!
...hope my hangover isn't too bad tomorrow though!

35? Yer a young'an. Fifty's young, and I've seen some 60-year-olds who could run five miles while 25 year olds sweat going up the stairs. Never too late for a change of body or mind.

yeah...I suppose you're right. Mr Seareach consoled me by saying I'd only just begun my adult life, but maybe he was having a go at me (ie: GROW UP WILL YA!

).

Me and some friends have been planning a party tonight, planning it for about the last 3 months. Yesterday I started coming down with the respiratory virus that 2 out of every 3 customers coming into my pharmacy have had for the last 2 weeks.
I'm pharmaceuticalled to the gills, but I could do with all the positive waves I can get, please??

get well vibes for you Stoney! But, heh, just drink a whole bottle of scotch. That'll kill off the lurgies (but hopefully not you!

Feel better, Stone!
Sea, all I can say is, 35 is just the start of the best part.

(And, come to that, we're *all* on the downward spiral to carking it, as soon as we're born. Nobody's gotten out of this joint alive *yet*.

I'm going to quote you on that (the being the "start of the best part" bit) and if I don't see any evidence in the next year I'm going to come 'round to your place in 2010 and whinge at you!

Oh, but I'll bring Boost bars for Magicmaker!

Too true. Pink Floyd summed up well my feelings about birthdays with these lines:
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath, one day closer to death
Sure, it's morbid. But human life tends to be.
Nobody's gotten out of this joint alive *yet*.

I wish they'd hurry along with developing technology whereby we could download our minds into computers and/or cybernetic bodies. Presto! Instant immortality. As long as we don't end up looking like the Borg.

Thanks a lot, now I'm torn -- do I wish for an awful '09 so Sea will come back to the US?

It's time for some West Side Story...
<Seareach sings>
I feel pretty
Oh so pretty
I feel pretty and witty and gay
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me today
I feel charming
Oh so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real
See the pretty girl in that mirror there?
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face
Such a pretty dress
Such a pretty smile
Such a pretty me!
I feel stunning
And entrancing
Feel like running
And dancing for joy
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy......
and now, watchie friends, all join in singing (don't be shy!):
Have you met my good friend Seareach
The craziest girl on the block?
You'll know her the minute you see her
She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock
She thinks she's in love
She thinks she's in Spain
She isn't in love
She's merely insane
It must be the heat
Or some rare disease
Or too much to eat
Or maybe it's fleas
Keep away from her
Send for Chino
This is not the Seareach we know
Modest and pure
Polite and refined
Well-bred and mature
And out of her mind!
Miss Australia, Miss Australia, speech!
Miss Australia bravo, speech!
...should I stop...ah no...better sing a bit more
<seareach>
I feel pretty
Oh so pretty
That the city should give me its key
A committee
Should be organized to honour me
I feel dizzy
I feel sunny
I feel fizzy and funny and fine
And so pretty
Miss Australia can just resign
See the pretty girl in that mirror there
(What mirror, where?)
Who can that attractive girl be?
(Which, what, where, whom?)
Such a pretty face
Such a pretty dress
Such a pretty smile
Such a pretty me!
WHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
