Aha, my evil plan is work--

I mean, um, that's good.

Carry on, nothing to see here.

And luci, do you have a way to get from the hinterlands ;) to Arlington?
looks like flying up on the 30th, not the 31st. arriving around noon. should meet on the 30th for dinner?

Had one of these in a trap. :( A shame, as they're so insanely cute, but also make a huge mess if they find a way into the food cupboard.

Isn't there a flight path from Aerie Peak?

Sorry, WoW joke. Couldn't resist. Don't shoot me.

LOL!!!! hinterlands. :haha:

well my second week here (last week) i found the park and ride to the metro is walking distance from my house so i *can* get to the metro and get into DC. would that be an efficient way to come?
oh....wait, i just googled arlington...yeah...no. LOL!

that's a ways away. assuming you mean arlington, md.
hmmmm. well, we've still got time to figure it out.
what are your suggestions?

Thinking about trying netflix. Probably should wait until I have a couch first (ordered in December, still not heard back to arrange delivery).

£5.99 is a lot cheaper than a TV license would've been, but not sure how much I need TV anyway. It would let me check out some shows I'm interested in without having to go buy a season box set, though.

WHAT?? No -- Arlington County, VA! Where Arlington National Cemetery is. And the Pentagon and stuff. :P So yes, taking the Metro would work just fine. If you switch from Orange to Blue at Pentagon, I could pick you up at either Pentagon City or Braddock Road.

I'll have to take Wednesday afternoon (the 30th) off, but I'm happy to do that. 8)

Spent the weekend in a village called Zongo. Very close to Wase Rock. Since my camera isn't that good, I'll link to an internet pic: Image
wikipedia wrote:Wase Rock is a massive dome shaped rocky inselberg found near Wase town in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State in central Nigeria. Standing alone in the Wase plains, it achieves a remarkable height of about 350 metres (1,150 ft) above the surface of the neighbouring surroundings. Available records indicate that this beautiful massive dome shaped rocky inselberg is one out of only five in the world.
A typical house group looked like this. Needless to say, no running water or electricity. I approached to get a better picture, but the little girl saw me coming and ran away. :( I'm probably the only white person she ever saw in person.

What we did there: danced to African music videos and showed Pilgrim's Progress (Liam Neeson's first film!) on a screen we erect on the back of a van, and preached the Gospel. Believe it or not, hundreds come to see this. Invited people who wanted to know more about Jesus to come in the morning. About 120 people came on Saturday morning. Some people who come are already Christian believers, looking for counseling on life issues. One woman I talked to was one of three wives. We do not judge that, we try to encourage them and pray with them about the challenges they face.

This friendly woman stopped to meet me. Her name was Gladys (they usually have an English name and a tribal name; note the baby tied to her back):

Holy holy. We've seriously gotta set up an air exchange between our two countries. Friday was 45.8 C (114.4 F) in Sydney, hottest day on record. How big do our straws have to be for the air we blow at each other to travel ~ 17,000 kms?

We had a stretch of -30C days at the end of last week. Feels like summer, now that it's 17 degrees less. Overthrow the government, claim all the money in the banks for yourself, and buy every Ozlander a trip to Jötunheim. Remember to bring all your sheep friends along so everyone can acquire a nice woollen shirt and socks for their comfort.

 A very long one! But I could provide a fan at this end and blow some snow through. :D

You had me at, "overthrow the government", especially as the water cannons, if they could just dial them down a notch, would be a welcome relief from the heat. Unfortunately, sheep wool or no sheep wool, I could NOT do -30 degrees for a second let alone a stretch!

It's a plan. With our combined engineering prowess and deer adding some heat from Zongo, we're set.

Really pretty back yard, Iolanthe!

I am thinking I am really happy I moved to the more mild pacific northwest, compared to other areas north of the Mason-Dixon Line...

Sounds like one of those situations that strips away a lot of random western Christian-culture assumptions & makes you rely on the gospel and on God.

They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
