De Niro

As for RHPS - it was initially meant to be started in black and white and then switch to color when Frank starts singing "Sweet Transvestite" - in a parody of the Wizard Of Oz movie, which switched to color in a similar way. The idea was not realized thanks to money cuts, but later was easily done as an option for a DVD release. Quite a sweet parallel :)

Mean Streets

That's a neat homage. I haven't seen that version. I think my last copy of RHPS was on VHS, though I do have the full soundtrack on my computer.

Miss Piggy

I have a great RHPS story. When I was 14, I had a friend in NYC and I went to visit her. She said we were going to see this movie, and I had never heard of it. We go to the place in the Village and all these people in the line were dressed up, men in Merry Widows, etc but in the NYC of the seventies anything and everything went and they just kind of seemed normal. We get in the movie and my friend is singing the opening song along with everyone else. Then the newspapers come out, water pistols, people getting onstage and acting the scenes out below the screen... it was totally awesome AND my friend had kept the whole thing a complete surprise for me. :D
