Hyperception

...yeah, yeah, so I'm biased...
I still think it is a beautiful piece of work

Good entries ... worth waiting a bit extra for some audience participation.

As an entrant, I too feel it is only fair to "vote for everyone" and look forward to some votes from disinterested parties...or the decision of Judge Wayfriend.

I'm not afraid to name favorites, but I arrived at them with some difficulty: Auleliel's for its cutting humor, Hyperception's for its vivid poignancy, and hue of bone's for its startling point of view.

In the end, if you had the Illearth Stone aimed at my head, I'd pick Auleliel's. Her wry voicing of displeasure at Linden (even though I like the character) really tickles my funny bone.

Wayfriend held a sonnet competition
Criteria: “form, wit, humor…response”
But when asked which deserved recognition
The readers responded with nonchalance

Now, some participants did cast their vote
Some voted their interest; some voted “all”
But no readers; does the silence denote
No audience or one not on the ball?

Without votes, form, wit and humor are left
All followed form as best they were able
Of wit and humor, darn few were bereft
None enough to their chances disable

I do not envy Wayfriend, who will judge
May the best win, and the rest hold no grudge!

Hyperception wrote: When first I woke and rose to greet the morn
(No: lay earth-bound refusing to awake)
The wise who dream regarded me with scorn
For naught I knew of what might be at stake.

In truth I felt bereft of love and light
To be a soul so pitiful and mean
Confronted by an energy so white
That no baleful cloud could drift in between.

Loath was she to part with words of sorrow
On lips still pursed to give a breath thus free
And trembling still await 'til the morrow
For final confrontation patiently.

Eschew now yon soft-skinned and sleek houri
And leave my fate to Linden Avery.
This effort of Hyperception's earns my vote.

Not sure if it will help generate "audience participation," but I just posted a link to way's description of the sonnet contest in my Facebook status...

And the winner is ...
Spoiler
Auleliel

This was a super tough one to judge, everyone's entry was very good. As far as I am concerned, everyone else was a tie for second, and lost by a fraction. I think it was Aulie's evident honesty that made the slim difference at the end.

Yes, it would've been a hoot, I'm sure.

Congrats, Auleliel!
