Darkwood--Into the blackness....

[Judging by the timestamp on the PM, this is actually in response to something that happened just after Vynarkus' comments. But let's not get too deep into the land of the retcon, so it'll just happen now.]
[On another note, I just remembered that Led has a Headband of Bravery, which grants immunity to fear effects. Seems to me that such a device should also have impact on strictly role-playing fears that I've been giving him. Cowardly Lion type stuff, and all that. Plus, followers of Darethon get a bonus versus fear...]
Led snaps his head around to glare at Kalindriel. "That was you in my head?" His hands begin to clench, as if he could imagine that he had claws, and he takes a step towards the half-elf. "What are you doing to me?" [I succeeded on my Listen check: I recognized your 'voice'.]

Anna rolls her eyes heavenward and sighs in exasperation.
She draws her flail and steps between Led and Kali, pointing it at both of them as she says harshly (but quietly) "Look, I am tired of both of you. I don't care if you both want to fight each other to the death, but we're not doing it now, and we're not doing it here. Once we get out of here, you two are welcome to kill each other. Until then, can we please figure out which way we're going?"

Kali half shrugs at the truth, "It's not my fault he gives such delightful reactions to any provocation. I'm not trying at all this time though. He's overreacting all on his own. And I can't really take that path until he is out of my way and you let me pass without feeding me the end of your flail..."
['Trina, skyseeker is a chick.]
[Kali', it was entirely unclear in my post, but I'd intended for Led's single step towards you to mean that he started and then stopped all on his own. He wasn't actually trying to start a fight... I was just showing that he briefly lost control, and then realized the poor sense in fighting about it right now. In my head, the lack of additional steps meant that he'd stopped moving towards you. It didn't occur that this ALSO could be interpreted as me allowing you to post a reply before I go ahead with "Led charges Kalindriel". Sorry for the confusion, but this way is also fun.]
Led looks as though he will rise to Kali's further provocations, his hands rising in the air. Then suddenly, he just turns around, dropping his hands in defeat (or disgust... it's hard to tell) and jogs after 'Trina and Skyseeker.

[I noticed that Led can shift 3 times per day.
First against the giant snake.
Second against the elves / golem.
Third against the vrock.
Fourth against the Nessian / giant.]

The bard covers her mouth to smother a grin at Led's reaction to Kalindriel's provocations, than says to no one in particular, "Are there any preparations we should do in case we meet some tanr'ri or baatezu, or perhaps even marid in an aquatic environment?"
[ooc]appropriate knowledge checks regarding resisting such creatures, or ways in which to prepare for them, please
also, any word on the number and kind of arrows Annalysei recovered before we move on?[/ooc]

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee... she's talking to me!Annalysei wrote:"Then shall we start heading that way? Is everyone healed up? Sigrid?"
"Um... I wasn't hurt. I'm fine, except that I'm mostly out of healing. But I already said that. Oh, you meant the others..."
I look around. [Heal checks. Who still needs good touch?] It's hard to look around, when you're looking at your feet. I'm too embarrassed to look up right now. I might make eye contact.
"We're as prepared as we're going to get. Until we rest."
I hang back until Anna leaves to follow the others. I'm not waiting for her to leave, or anything. It's only a coincidence. I'm not even looking in her direction. How would I even know when she left?
[ooc]heal checks as well please[/ooc]Sigrid wrote:"We're as prepared as we're going to get. Until we rest."
"I still have quite a bit of healing left without using my last spells, if needed. Does anyone need additional healing now? If not, I can do some more later should we encounter the need for it before we pray or rest."
[ooc]I have four more uses of bardic music. Each time I launch Healing Hymn it counts as one use. For each use of the hymn, I can cast CLW 3+ my charisma modifier as a spell-like ability, since the hymn replaced the Fascinate and Suggestion progression of my bardic music. Plus I get an additional HP of healing when the hymn is sung thanks to my Song of the Heart feat. If there are two more elements left, that may mean two more altars and hence two more foes. Perhaps one more launch of Inspire Courage and Healing Hymn per foe?
The hymn is most effective when sung as a lullabye though. With luck, we'll be able to rest before my last use of bardic music is used up.[/ooc]

"I can heal during battle if necessary. I think I'm fine." Seeing Sigrid's flustered state, Anna makes a low flowery bow, like she'd seen in her father's court, "Shall we, milady?" because she simply can't resist.

Smiling amusedly at the Volk mystic's distress, Skyseeker steps up and with a courtly regal curtsy says, "My thanks." before slowly proceeding down the tunnel, eyes alert, seeking anything amiss. Marrik shakes his head and closes his eyes briefly, to feel for any malignity....apparently, there is none within his range.

Ignoring for the moment the content of the puzzle, Led considers the mechanism in terms of it being most likely a trap. In that context, can he solve the trap? (Which might include solving the puzzle on the surface, but might also include simply digging behind the tiles in order to disable the damaging part, and bypassing the normal solution.) Consider this the "Sword of Damoclese" approach... true intelligence tells you not to try to solve the stupid puzzle, and just to try to open the door. Though, in this case, Led won't actually TOUCH the panels or the door until he's established the safety of doing so, etc.

Vynarkus stops glaring and sighs as his eyes relax.
"Ok, everyone. This is a magical device, which would probably be beyond the abilities of any of us to deactivate.
"...By the way, Led, it's a good thing you aren't touching that yet. It's fine if you examine it, but unless you know exactly what you're doing, touching it at all will set off a test that will blast you with something if you fail.
"I can't tell exactly what it's attack would be, but I can tell that the magic involves illusion, necromancy, and evocation. The illusion is powering the test, therefore the other two are likely the base of the attack.
"The test doesn't really seem to have anything to do with real intelligence, just pattern memorization. It seems to be based on a 'copy-cat' game that I, at least, played as a child, though I wasn't exceptionally skilled at it. Once you touch it, the panels will light up in a pattern you have to copy once its done. Each time you succeed, another, longer pattern will pop up, until you've passed a certain length. If you don't copy the order exactly, you fail.
"Is there anyone here good at that kind of thing? Or should we just try to bypass it somehow? I do have four separate ways we could try to bypass it, if necessary."
[ooc]Apparently, mnemonics is an unmodified Intelligence check. At Intell 14, Vyn is above average, but not really as good as characters more specialised in it would be. Anyone else got a better score?[/ooc]
