What'd I tell you?

To keep things on topic (just barely):

Spent most of eight hours in the car playing folk musician Dave Carter, and satirical rock band Crash Test Dummies.

Just bought an album by a band called Gov't Mule. (Dose). I like their sound. It's a modern rock without all the electonic bells and whistles, and a ballsey sound. It is a nice break from all these effete sounding vocalists and dreamy sounding bubblegum rock (while I do enjoy a lot of this) WITHOUT sounding like Eddy Vedder. God am I glad that trend is over.

I definately like that huge guitar blues/rock sound.

You can find me listening to Dream Theater just about any time of the day, but lately I've been listening to "In The Court of The Crimson King" by King Crimson quite a bit. Just started getting into this band, and this album is really taking me places. Will definitely have to pick up more from these guys. Yeah, I know, it's a little late in the game for this band, but oh well...

Well, AcousticJames, welcome to the Crimson Club. I suggest Red, which is a much darker, heavier album than "In the Court of"--and my personal favorite. Larks' Tongues In Aspic is great as well, it's transitional and not a masterpiece like their debut or Red. Also, their 80s output should not be ignored, despite the atrocious decade it came out in; Discipline is one of the best albums of the 80s (the best, in my opinion).

Thanks for the recommendations, Lord Foul! Yeah, a friend of mine sent me "Starless", which I believe is off of Red, and it is truly an amazing song. The vocals are absolutely amazing. So Red is on my list to get in the near future. I'll be grabbing as much as I can from these guys.

Not music, but I did pick up Rodney Dangerfield's No Respect album.

I've been expanding my Beatles empire, recently acquiring HELP (their best mop top album, before they began the experimentation that started with Rubber Soul and evolved onwards). Even though I don't have Let It Be, I'll probably get A Hard Day's Night next, as I have Past Masters, Vol. 2, and that CD has most of the best stuff off Let It Be (and better mixes too).

Totally agree. And Past Masters Vol.2 has that terrific song "Rain" which is an underrated gem in the Beatles' output. Let me add that I think Let It Be is a limp, tired, substandard Beatles effort. It's all relative. A bad Beatles album is still interesting, in a "train wreck" sort of way.

Get Let it be Naked Matrixman. It was recommended to me that I never get the original recording of Let it Be and only that one. I love it as much as any other Beatles album. So having never heard the original recordings, I can say it is on par with Abbey Road and The White Album.

And about the Beatles, how many bad things did they do really? I can only cite a couple of places where there is anything that isn't superb. (some sub-par stuff on the first side of Magical Mystery Tour, a couple of infamous white album tracks. Any song with the word "piggies" in it...) While my tastes lie mostly with Rubber Soul and beyond, nearly everything they did was golden. No band these days, no matter how genius and experimental they are, can approach the shear number of fantastic songs the Beatles were able to create. I challenge anyone to cite a band that ever even came close.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dreaming. I didn't bother checking out Let It Be Naked because it seemed like a cheap ploy capitalizing on the Beatles name.

Try it first LF. Then tell me whatever you want. There are a lot of songs I truly love on that album, like I Me Mine and Across the Universe. Maybe it wont stand the test of time for me like Abbey Road or the White Album, but it certainly is far from being a train wreck.
