Well, my day started well. I managed to write two and a half pages of the 20 page newsletter that I have to get finished by tomorrow night. Had to stop to go shopping, and when I got back had lunch and got my head stuck into my kindle (doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "head stuck in a book" does it?) and ended up finishing "Sourcery" that I downloaded on Thursday night. Bought a BeeGees CD whilst out shopping so now sitting listening to that.
So, tomorrow I have to write 17 and a half pages of newsletter.

Will they notice if you cut and paste the first two and a half pages seven times?
I run into this trap often myself where I confuse the energy of initial progress with completion of the task, then wander off to do more fun things and wake up to the majority of work waiting to be done.
On the plus side, you finished Sourcery! Was it good? I'm soon to start Equal Rites.

Yes, they will! I have all the rest in my head, it's just getting it out that's the problem.
When I have too much to do I tend to look at the pile of work, say what the hell and do something else instead!
Sourcery was good, but not as good as some of the others I've read, until nearer the end. I downloaded Interesting Times last night. I love Rincewind, and Twoflower - both are apparently in IT, and I laughed a great deal during the first few pages. I couldn't get Eric, apparently not for sale at the moment. That is annoying as it must hold an integral part of the story which I've now gone past.
I see Equal Rites is the first of the Witch Stories. I started with two out of order but have now started reading them in sequence.

I can't order anything on Amazon from home.

I can do it fine from my work computer, but I keep getting dumped into an endless loop if I try to put something in my cart from my home computer. Wondering if it's a Firefox issue. I might have to book up Internet Exploder -- the horror, the horror...
EDITED to add: Yup, that was the problem. I wonder if it's some add-on that's making Amazon's cart act up in Firefox. Sigh. Technology -- it's here to help us....

Love the witches.
Witches Abroad contains my all-time favorite Discworld scene.

Too much helpful technology is how you end up with Cylons.

Well, back at work today. Starting in an hour. Not sure if I feel ready or not. We shall see I guess. I have one painkiller left for the day
Yesterday was not the best birthday ever. Kicked off with a very emotional parting, then the rest of it was just lonely. Since I'd been sick I hadn't arranged anything, and no-one was able to do anything on short notice. So I just kinda bummed around, read a book, went out for a bite to eat, hung out with my flatmates. Thought about my lady friend all day, and often with a lump in my throat. By the time I went to bed I was glad the day was over.
Today I wasn't as sad, but I didn't get out of bed until early afternoon because there just didn't seem much point. Oh well. A day at a time. Hopefully I'll be bringing some positive vibes into this thread sometime soon!

Haha, my GF's too. Is it the one with the bulls and the absinthe?
Cambo, here's wishing you a speedy recovery as well as the happy (well...) birthday.

Cambo --
Just figured out my taxes. This year, I'll have to pay about as much as I got back last year. Not fun.

I'm exhausted. I have one more day to get ready before the boss goes on vacation and leaves me in charge of the show. Yes, we do have an assistant manager but he's a bit of a scatterbrain so essentially it is up to me to make sure everything gets done. Don't worry, a promotion is looking to be soon in my future and yes, I just got a small annual raise. Anyway, it's a big compliment that he's leaving me in charge in reality and an even better compliment that he hasn't actually taken a vacation in three years because he didn't feel like he could leave the store and trust that it would be ok. Now that he has me he can. Despite the compliment, expect to hear lots of whining and complaints of exhaustion from me this next ten days....

Yes! And if my desktop starts telling me, "By your command," I'm gonna hit it with a hammer.
Murrin, care to share in the dream thread?
Yesterday was a holiday for us Amurrcans (Presidents' Day), so today is effectively Monday. Of course, it started raining on my way in to work this morning...

A little too crazy to put down in words, alas. There were at least three different narratives in three locations happening interchangeably.

Good, I think. I've been occasional accompanist for a small group of 8 very good singers and today I was asked to be their permanent accompanist. It won't be like the choir I played for for 30 years - rehearsal every Monday night with 4 concerts at the end, but a couple of rehearsals and one performance every now and again. So I said yes. Must admit I've hardly touched the piano for 18 months, and when I played for this group a few weeks ago I was very stiff, so it will do me good to have a reason to play.
And, my new (new, not just new to me) piano should arrive next week. Never had a new piano before, and a new piano stool, one that goes up and down instead of the one with the lid and the pile of music inside that I have used since the year dot!
Hope I've done the right thing, but a girl does need a bit of variety in her life.

So sad. Smacked in the head by the reminder that in Minnesota, in February [and too many other times], a day above freezing is just Natures Zamboni making everything slipperier.

Phew! Work is taking it out of me at the moment. Finished last night's shift absolutely shattered. It's kinda nice to feel like I'm back amongst the real world again though.
Painkillers are my friend at the moment. Constantly keeping the pain in my guts battened down. Hoping I can get this diagnosis quicker than the five month waiting period the hospital gave me.
