Thing is, he needs to know that kicking people is wrong, so going off at him, while perhaps excessive if you say so, is what you have to do to prevent further such behaviour. I sometimes think some modern parenting ideas don't clearly delineate acceptable and unacceptable behaviour to kids anymore. No wonder they're confuddled.

Elfy.....pretty sure I didn't do any damage. If it still hurts tomorrow when I go into work I'll get it x-rayed (advantages to working in a clinic.... ;) )

And Sea, no I wasn't trying to kick the dog. It wouldn't have bothered him anyway. He would have just looked at me like "WTF?"

And don't worry about going off on Son of. I went off on mine plenty of times. He turned out okay, still loves me and I think he even likes me!

It is nearly too beautiful to be in our world - it is as though the realm of the Snow Queen in the land of Faerie has briefly overlapped out world, and left some of its haunting beauty behind.
Lovely words, duchess! Winter can indeed be a beautiful time - especially for picture-taking. :D Hope your camera gets lots of use!
Here you go - I haven't had time to crop the corners and prettify it yet, but here is the ice storm. (It is like the Grand Canyon - no matter how many pictures you take, you can never capture the scale of sheer gorgeousness of it). That weird little bit on the bottom seems to be an artifact from photobucket. :? Anyway, this was taken from my front steps. Mulitply the ice on tall trees in every direction, and you can get just a bit of an idea!

Sea - do not worry about yelling at your son for kicking. It sounds like you are usually a very gentle mother, so yelling at him every now and then will only gain his attention and tell him how important your words were on that occasion. I rarely yell at my kids, but believe me - on the rare occasion when I do, they pat attention and take it to heart.

Ducky - I feel your pain. One of the three cats seems to specialize in wrapping himself around my ankles when I try to go up and down the stairs. I hope all will be well with you!

OD' on OJ, Gunner...you gotta flush that sucker outa your system by drinking lots. Vit C is the way!

I am a bit peeved that last night's cloudy conditions ruined our comet viewing night. Hope it's clear tonight or Saturday night, cos I think that's our last opportunity to view it.

I've got a cold now too and it sucks! HOWEVER! I got carded for cigarettes! I thought she was kidding but she was serious. When she looked at my birthdate she did a double take, said "Jesus" and demanded to know my secret so I flippantly replied, "Chainsmoking" hahahhahah. We laughed and then I said, "Lots of water, plenty of good quality moisturizer and sunscreen."

Hope all those with snuffles get better soon. :)

And Elfy, good luck with that comet watching! It's too hard to see it here.

I'm good today. Heard from my mum that dad doesn't have cancer or TB (well, thank God for that...although I'm now thinking why in heavens name would a doctor give some old bloke the impression he might have TB unless he was pretty certain...I feel like ringing the doctor and saying "yeah, just scare the pants off my dad!"). Anyway, they're saying now that he's had a mixture of bacterial and viral pneumonia. So the antibiotics are clearing up the bacterial bit but not the viral bit. So things aren't half as bad as they could have been. What a relief! :)

I got this weird email from one of my sisters today, telling me that our mother had taken some funky drug to prevent miscarriage when she was pregnant with me, a drug which is now banned for that purpose, and now I am at risk to get some sort of bizarre vaginal cancer normal people do not usually get.

My first reaction was: OK - you guys all had 42 years to tell me this -including when I got married and had children of my own (with no funky drugs during my pregnancies, thank you very much!). So why did you wait so long to tell me?????

At the same time, I am glad that she did tell me, for obvious reasons. Normal exams do not catch the weird cancer.

It is about time for my annual gyn exam and mammogram, so I will probably call my doctor's office tomorrow, and explain that as well as a normal pap test I need a special vaginal quadrant pap test for women exposed to DES while their mothers were pregnant with them. And then make the appointment and get it over with    I hate them normally. Now I will have even more reasons to hate them. Well, the mammogram is OK, but I hate the gyn exams. :| :| :| :| :| :| :|

Families.   Why the hell keep stuff like that to themselves and not bother telling the person it effects?

That is good.

Btw, what comet are people trying to see? I don't think I'd have much chance to see it here in the terrible crappy Melbourne skies but I might drive out tonight and have a look.

I feel kinda pissy because apparently selling a house screws with your tax refund.

If I end up having to owe, I'm going to cry.
