I've known that since Albuquerque.

I just got a letter from the EEO office at my job. It says "I have just heard that you may have a disability that is preventing you from returning to work. I am here to assist you in establishing a reasonable accommodation that will allow you to work."

TRANSLATION
" I just heard that our moron commissioner put you in the field while you had an existing accommodation due to a back injury from a fall at work. We are worried about lawsuits and keeping our 150,000+ a year jobs so my I am sending you this letter to cover our collective asses."

...May possibly go somewhere good, maybe? *inquisitive face* :?
...even if this person is acting under duress.. (or perhaps "because this person is acting under duress."?)

I don't care what I have to do, I will never ever EVER go back there. I would rather be a 57 year old hooker walking the streets of of of................. well maybe Tahiti.

I think there are plenty of good options, apart from becoming a courtesan...but your determination to keep the door to your former life closed is reassuring.

Stay strong.

I wrote out a whole long rant, then decided no one would actually want to read it. The emoticons sum it up nicely.

Ah, a good rant can be fun to read... ;)

lorin, maybe you can add mental duress to the physical limitations that the EEO office already knows about, and negotiate yourself a nice disability payment that will tide you over 'til your retirement benefits kick in. ;) That is, I assume the city will still pay you a pension. If they would deny it to you on the grounds that you quit, then I would seriously think about pursuing this EEO claim.

Jenn: Don't let 'em take you alive! :mgun:

So I applied for a transfer at work -- admin assistant to our new COO. I met with the guy yesterday. Seems nice enough. :) Although I couldn't come up with a good argument for why he should pick me, instead of the secretary he's been assigned on an interim basis; in fact, I told him I thought she was fabulous (I really do think so -- and there aren't many secretaries here who I would say that about). And he seems to like her well enough. So I probably won't get the job. But if I did -- no more bills! It would almost make my day job tolerable. ;)

Good luck, Ali!

So, I have been promised a new minion at the end of next month. My current minion is the reason why I'm frazzled and banging my head against the wall. On Monday he left early due to what I strongly suspect was a fictional emergency. Left me with a huge mess. Tuesday he didn't show up at all. Left me doing everything. Yesterday he showed up with a major hangover and spent the morning snapping at me for 'working too loudly'. Needless to say, he did not accomplish much work himself. Today, he didn't accomplish much except for leaving a huge mess.

I'm accountable for this guy, and also accountable for things not being a huge mess when physical inventory day rolls around next month. I've been trying to train him for two months. I have worked with difficult people before. I have trained difficult people before. At this point, I'm hoping he gets carried off by pterodactyls.

Okay, one more month of not going crazy and/or strangling him. Mind you, this company has a bad track record when it comes to keeping promises....

Whoops, my bad... I hadn't realized -quite- how far you'd decided to go from your previous position/organization...
...nor that the scope of what this guy can do is just trying to find out how to make work within your previous organization possible given physical limitations.

I'm sorry for everyone's frustrations and troubles. That totally sucks. I am happy to announce that I am no longer a wanted criminal sought by the popo of Sarpy county. I went in and paid the ticket today thinking that I may still have the warrant on me until the court date listed on the letter but the nice lady said she was revoking the warrant right there so I have successfully escaped the long arm of the law. Also I got my death star spare tire cover and it's absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to put it on Vader tomorrow. Good thing I took time to get him all desalted and washed and prettied up today. :P I also had some other good adventures today so I'll post those in my blog. Sorus, you should just rant here. I have for years now and they still tolerate me and even like me!

Um, I've heard you rant in person and you have heard me rant in person and you are even more witty and funny than I am by far.

I'll take that as a compliment, even though it isn't true. I'm just too frazzled and depressed to be witty right now.

Out of hospital tomorrow, all going well. Then it's up to my folks house for six weeks of recovery. Sigh. An unwanted interruption to my life, but at least it wasn't any worse.

Oh, and the doctors have confirmed I have Crohns disease. Will require later management and treatment, but should be no huge impact on my quality of life.
