Hi everybody!

I found out this site yesterday, liked it at once. A long time ago I read the first & second chronicles a few times, some parts in English others in my native language Dutch. Absolutely loved it.
A couple of years ago I learned SRD had started writing the last chronicles, and found The Runes of the Earth at the library. I must say I was afraid the new stuff would turn out to be a disappointment. This happened to me before: I'm a big fan of Ursula Leguin's original Earthsea trilogy, many years later a sequel was published, and I just hated it. I was actually sorry I read it.

Back to the last chronicles. I read the Runes of the Earth, and allthough I didn't dislike it, it also didn't really catch me. TC returning to the story seemed a bit cheap to me, you know like Sherlock Holmes being brought back to life, which was clearly not A.C. Doyle's original intention.

A couple of years passed again. I stumbled upon Fatal Revenant on a book fair, bought it, but only started reading about a week ago.
And this time, yes, like in the old days, I got totally absorbed. Love it!
Spoiler
TC of course turned out to be RC (which I guessed at some point after the 10.000 year time leap)
, so nothing cheap there.
Right now I'm now at the point where
Spoiler
Linden meets the giants
(please don't spoil anything from there onwards).
SRD seems to have lost nothing of his writing power, and I really hope the final chapters and the next 2 books live up to my now very high expectations.

Just a few words to conclude this rather lengthy post. I don't know anybody who has read the chronicles, so I'm glad I found this site and forum. About the name: as you might have guessed, I live in a town called Oss :). I'll add a profile later on.
By the way, I'm reading the last chronicles entirely in English now. Difficult but worth it. See you!

Heh...I think I've been there. Or more accurately, passed through there, when I was going with a German friend of mine from Darmstadt, Germany to Amsterdam.

Just found this site as a link from SRD's website. Interesting to see some other reactions to his works.
In my opinion, the works about Thomas Covenant are the only books that are equal to Lord of the Rings. Derivative, but not imitative.
I have met SRD a number of times, and have all of the books except the latest one signed by him. I even have a copy of Gildenfire, which is signed by him.
My personal favourate series by him is Mordant's Need, but I also really like the Mick Axbrewder books.

I'm not sure how you would be passing through Oss from a town deep in Germany heading to Amsterdam. But as we have a saying her many roads lead to Rome, so it is possible. Maybe you took the motorway south of Oss and read Oss on the signs.
Anyway, nice you visited our little country!

And thanks to you, I had to fix it in two places, instead of one. :P

Welcome to the Watch Viz. :D We try to keep discussion of anything in the books in the relevant forums, to not spoil anything for people who haven't read them yet. No probs though, I fixed it for you.

Join in anywhere...our different forums cover a wide variety of topics. You're sure to find interesting stuff on more than just TC. :D

And welcome RD350LC. If you can make Elohimfest 2011, you could get that latest book signed too, since he'll be there. (Check out the thread in the Announcements forum.)

Thanks to Fist and Faith finding a copy of Gildenfire in a used book store and sending it to me, I hope to soon have the same after the next elohimfest.

Sorry about putting some spoilers in my first post, should have realised I have to be careful in a forum thread like this one.

I finished Fatal Revenant yesterday night, and ordered the next book right away. Have to be patient for a couple of days now.

Do you know about the "hidden" AATE forum, Viz? You can find instructions on how to access it here, when you are ready to enter there.

Hello, everyone! I followed a link that a friend left for me to this site, although I believe I registered here quite a while ago and never posted. I'm a fan of the Chronicles from waaay back in the early 80's. I've only read the books through The Wounded Land. Looking forward to re-reading the first trilogy and the others and maybe joining in on the board here. Thanks! :D

Welcome to the Watch. :D Watch out for spoilers until you've read at least the first 2 chrons.

(Hey SQ, let's try and avoid unnecessary double posts huh? I merged those two posts of yours into a single one. If you submit and have a second thought, just use the "edit" button to add it to the existing post, thanks.)
