Aaaand Hugh Howey has apologised and deleted the very sexist post.

Edit: Hmm, seems what actually happened is he posted an apology that was pretty much just "it was a joke and I'm sorry you took offense", then deleted the post and the apology and posted a two-line "I am so sorry" apology.

Considering Howey's heroines, the sexism is surprising.

Today I felt good in the morning for the first time all week!!! Spent a chunk of the day taking my daughter and friends shopping. The highlight was the jokes we passed around behind the back of a young man who fell in love with the beautiful girls I had with me (3 Nigerians and 3 white Americans) and told me several times he could speak Chinese and Yoruba (his English was terrible) and he was going to America tomorrow. I wouldn't let him get any of their phone numbers. :)

Thanks Sarge! DotD, that's funny and glad to hear you are feeling better. I had a good day despite it being long and busy at work. Had some really nice fun customers which made the day for me.

Hope everyone's feeling better today. :)

I read Howey's post about WorldCon and thought it was hysterical and not sexist at all. If it had been a guy pulling the crap that woman pulled, he could've called the guy a bastard and nobody would have batted an eye. Didn't have anything to do with her being female -- it was all about her attitude toward self-pubbed writers, when she didn't realize who she was talking to.

I'm tired and soooo ready for my day off tomorrow. I'll do some puttering about the house, run a few errands and then just kick back. 8)

I was the only one to show up for work on my shift today. sent a c/o to the trusty camp and kept the first shift c/o over to help. then they sent me a couple c/o's to help with dinner.

don't see how unemployment is so high. we have plenty of openings.

just have to make it to the 28th for vacation....

I too will be going on vacation soon. I have booked a nine day trip to SF to visit with my beeyaches. This will be mid May. Part of the trip is going to involve overnight stays in a cabin and some floating down a river in an innertube... Yay!

You don't think him saying he'd celebrate an award win by grabbing his crotch and saying "suck it, bitch" to a woman who'd been dismissive of self-publishing is sexist? You think he'd have done the same if a man had been rude to him and not a woman? The post was chock full of gendered slurs that were uncalled for even if she was rude.

I went to see Fleetwood Mac over the weekend. They are still pretty good after all these years. I was getting a kick out of a young fellow in the row in front of us. When they played Sara, he whooped and stood up started swaying to the song. I figured he grew up listening to the music that his parents played.

Nine days till my trip to London. I'm looking forward to it but now I'm also trying to put together a list of things I need to do before I leave. I have the last of the things I need prior to leaving on order - outlet adapters and a back up battery for my iPhone.

Lol, Damelon. I remember when my kids "discovered" classic rock and they couldn't believe I knew all the songs. I would belt them out and they'd be drop-jawed...

You wouldn't believe the number of people who travel internationally and either forget to bring a cellphone charger, or forget that the voltage and plugs are very different in other places. Don't forget your adapter/transformer while you're shopping.

I feel a little shocked and sad and horrified by the explosions at the Boston Marathon. That's just so indescribably messed up that I am seriously at a loss for words in some ways. Glad to know that some of the watchers from that area have checked in and are ok.

My wife and I kayaked the Russian River last August. I was burned to a crisp! That's the closest I've ever come to beaching a kayak and calling a cab.

I so need this vacation and yes there will be beaches and beeyaches. My friends from college and yes over twenty years ago and we all still love each other fiercely.

Incidentally, I just made a quick run for smokes and I was driving close to my house and past these two guys who just got out of a parked black jeep wrangler and they started doing the Wayne's World "we are not worthy" bow at me as I drove past. Methinks they might have seen my jeep before...

Did he say that? I don't remember it, and I think I would have. Maybe he'd edited the post by the time I read it.

Anyway, Seized didn't make the semifinals for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. :( But I got the Publishers Weekly review, so I'm satisfied. 8)

And yeah, the bombing in Boston is just...I dunno. Horrific? Incomprehensible? I begin to think we've used up all the suitable adjectives by now.

Honestly, I haven't even had the emotional strength to look at any of the latest news about it. I just blocked it out all day.

I thought about dlbphmd today and I total wish I had an mp3 of him saying "You dozy bint. I had a customer today with a thick southern accent and somehow my name turned into Ji-yin chris TYIN sin. Anyway, I think all the male watchers with sexy accents should record an mp3 of them saying "You dozy bint" and then post it in a thread which we could call "Dozy Bint soundbites of the World." Then when I am having a bad day I could just go to that thread and listen to Avatar or Xar or dlb or Phantasm etc etc saying that and it would totally make me smile.
