If that's the real video, then somebody at the police station handling the case has some explaining to do, because that's where the tape's supposed to be right now. There've been several people on youtube.com that pulled pranks saying they had the video, too...

Since this seems to have been the most active thread on the topic, I guess this belongs here:
Stingrays killed to avenge Irwin

Sydney - Australians are avenging the death of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin by killing stingrays, a friend of the wildlife documentary maker said on Tuesday.

Ten stingrays have been found dead on Queensland beaches in the week since Irwin died after being jabbed in the heart by the venomous barb of the stingray he was filming.

"We just want to make it very clear that we won't accept, and not stand for, anyone who's taken a form of retribution," said Michael Hornby, the executive director of Irwin's Australia Zoo at Beerwah, near Brisbane.

'Last thing Steve would want'

He added: "That's the last thing Steve would want. I hope everyone understands we have to protect wildlife now more than ever. This is what Steve was all about."

Queensland state wildlife officer Wayne Sumpton, who examined the dead rays, said there was no firm evidence linking their deaths to that of the much-loved conservationist and zookeeper.

Public service on Thursday

Irwin, 44, had a private funeral at Australia Zoo on Saturday and is believed to have been buried there.

A public send-off is scheduled to take place on Thursday at a sports stadium in Brisbane.

Irwin's widow, American-born Terri, and his two children, Bindi, 8, and two-year-old Bob, are expected to attend a service that has been billed as a celebration of the achievements of the khaki-clad showman.

It would be their first public appearance since Irwin's death snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. - Sapa-dpa

 Yes, the man who represented preservation of numerous species would approve of stingrays being killed.

Bunch of berks.

Could it be that this is merely the beginning of the stingray war on humanity?

MIAMI, Florida (Reuters) -- A leaping stingray stabbed an 81-year-old Florida boater in the chest, authorities said Wednesday, leaving its poisonous stinger lodged close to his heart in an incident recalling the one that killed Australian TV naturalist Steve Irwin last month.

Fire Department officials in Lighthouse Point, about 30 miles north of Miami, said James Bertakis was in a small recreational boat with two grandchildren Tuesday when the spotted eagle ray leaped aboard and struck him.

"It's just a real freak thing," Lt. Mike Sullivan told Reuters, saying the incident occurred on Florida's Intracoastal Waterway, where stingrays are rarely seen leaping in the air. ... link
