Agreed completely. Olmos owns the role of Adama.

Peven wrote:the new BSG series is one of the best shows on TV, imo. it can be hard to break into, since it is a serial, so i recommend buying/renting the pilot movie and then 1st season dvd's and going from there. it is hard for me to think that any real science fiction fan wouldn't really enjoy it.
Agree on all points, I'm a late follower of this series and one really needs to start from beginning.

Yep, start from the beginning. And if you are familiar with the old series, there are a lot of nods and tweaks that should thrill you. And some that leave you headscratching. But yes, the miniseries alone blew me away in comparison to the pilot episode/movie of the original. The tension is so much better. Though I must admit, I miss the old look of the cylon.

The Cylons are the best part about BSG. I can't think of another race of villians that are so evil yet so sympathetic and fascinating.

It's just the look, not that characters themselves. From what I've seen, they are very naughty villians indeed. The previous Cylons were just tin cans for target practice.

I think technological advances and better budgets also helped the new series look good. The guys dressed in tin cans can't compete with the digital bad-asses...plus they have a heap more variety in the 'ship shots' - BSG the original kept repeating their SPFX to death (and there was more than a passing nod to Star Wars, for which the new BSG has no resemblance!) I like the 'darker' quality of the new series - has a far more 'apocalyptic' feel, whereas the old BSG seemed to be a bit camp.

True, but there were some classic episodes, such as (which does sound like camp) when the guy who may have been the Devil or something came to visit. And some of the bits with the Ship of Lights. I've heard they brought the Pegasus back (though I haven't gotten to that yet), so I wonder if the Ship of Lights will come back. It was bordering on the cheeseball side, but it was interesting.

This is turning into another BSG thread!

Yes, the Ship of Lights was very cool. And the "Devil" dude -- yes, I remember being a bit freaked out by him. That was Patrick MacNee, wasn't it? John Steed turned evil! :P

Oops...yeah...I guess there is another thread for that. Oh well.

But yeah...the guy from the Avengers, yeah?

I think the character's name was Count Iblis. Wow...spelled it right from just checking IMDB to be sure. I also noticed that he did a lot of the other voices on the original, like the announcer who starts with, "There are those that believe that life here began out there..." And he also voiced the Imperious Leader. I wonder if that was intended to be the same character.

My friend says that Glen Larson was a hardcore Mormon, and that he was spreading Mormonism through the show. I don't know enough about it to know for sure.

EDIT: Ewww....just looked up Iblis in wikipedia. Freaky...

Robert Rodriguez is making BARBARELLA... My Balls Just Exploded!!!
Harry here... this story just got posted on VARIETY and I grabbed my phone and called Rodriguez - "I told you it was the coolest thing ever!" before I even said a word.

Robert Rodriguez is making an R-rated BARBARELLA that is being written right now by the writers behind CASINO ROYALE - Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. With Dino De Laurentiis and Martha De Laurentis producing. ...

Jane Fonda was Barbarella. Now Drew Barrymore supposedly is, though I could have sworn I heard Kate Beckinsale was gonna play her.....

sorry for the confusion.

I would like to see Ashlee Simpson as Barbarella...
C'mon, she's very cute and sexy and she has the 'ditzy' thing down pat!

Any other suggestions?
(not a fan of Drew as the character, although I like her....)

Damn...I was a fan of the campiness of it, but it looks like they will not be focusing on it. Too bad. Oh well, I love Rodriguez, so I'm sure it will be good even if I have to shift gears on what I'll be seeing.

I am enraged; there's another remake on the way. Hot on the heels of Transformers and Ninja Turtles, we get:
