This is a joke thread--look at the title 4 god sakes! Yes we all know there were no dogs in TCTC series...Kaos I know/hope u're only joking, but all the endless debates/arguements (not only by u, Sky, my involvement 2 some xtent and others) in this 4rum r really starting 2 give me a headache!I can't remember them either, Ryzel. Only foxes and kresh, actually.
Things you'll never see in TCTC

dont take it too seriously danlo .. as a debate forum discussion is inevitable .. and so long as its healthy and unoffensive .. thats what we do here best .. discuss stuff ..
as long as everyone remembers we are all respected members of this community .. its all good
*hands danlo an aspirin* lol

very true .. and probably the reason that we all loved the Land so much in the 1st chrons. cos the inhabitants were so 'good'.Kaos wrote:Anyway, I wasn't presuming nepotism in regards to Mhoram. I was
just pointing out that what we see of the people of the Land is that
they seem to be universally kind, generous, and completely lacking
in envy. The only bitter people we really see in the series are
Trell's family, and Triock, and we all know what happened to them.

It's easy to have a workable system when the people you're
dealing with are virtual saints.
indeed .. a world without cats and dogs ..Kaos wrote:A world without dogs
would be sad indeed, I think.

yep and that was the plan .. and not the first time he used that strategy .. with the old Lords you will remember he infiltrated the central government and attempted the same ..Kaos wrote:It occurred to me after reading that the actual governance of the
Land made it easier for Lord Foul to create the Clave. All he had to
do was corrupt the central authority at Revelstone, and the rest of
the Land was under his sway.
well that is a possibility .. but the people of the Land didnt have such a relationship with the Council .. did they? The Council was respected and trusted .. hence Foul's chosen tactic .. and they seemed to rarely question their authority or decisions .. on the wholeKaos wrote:Maybe if the Lords had to work for votes we might have gotten
a loyal opposition to the na-Mhoram!

Ryzel:
I kind of see the Cavewrights as being like Trolls.
The ur-viles as orcs.
The Waynhim as elves.
The way the Woodhelvinin are described always made me think of
elves too.[/quote]
Sometimes I am just so very happy that there are NO elves and NO dwarves and NO hobbits and NO dragons in the Land. Hallelujah![

*shakes head*
he should be tied up to a stake and placed under a sunbane for even thinking of such a comparison
LOL .. actually I think the closest thing to elven folk would be the elohim .. just because of their interesting origins
but i tend to steer clear of Tolkien v TCTC comparisons as a general rule
..
lol .. ahhh and thats because in all seriousness
.. ofcourse
.. both works are breath-taking and strictly unique creations .. to the credit of their individual creators
indeed
lol
however .. i think a comparison can be drawn between TC and Brian
both reluctant and misunderstood heroes .. notwithstanding the fact that Brian didnt have leperosy .. but he did meet a leper once

I agree that you can find similarities between many of the creatures and things in the chronicles and the LOTR, but there are also important differences.
I totally disagree with the ur-viles being like elves though. The cave-wights are maybe a bit like orcs and trolls, they certainly fill the same roles in the books (cannon fodder).
My thought about elves is that if you consider the whole world and not just the Land, then the inhabitants of the Land would be the "elves" of the world.
