Lore has a brother here?? I had no idea.

Raen asked me about the race/ethnicity of Watchers. I think that will be a huge correlation. All who've answered so far are white/caucasian/European descent, and nearly all others I know about are also. Believer and Matrixman are of Asian descent. Off the top of my head, that's as diverse as the Watch gets.

CovenantParadox is a Phillipino IIRC.

(Wait, I could be wrong about that...I'm sure somebody is though....ah yes...just plain Paradox. :D I was close.)

But yes, we're not racially diverse. Maybe fantasy, particularly SRD's brand, doesn't have a broad appeal to other races?

That is true. I kind of thought that would be a given so thats why I didn't ask that question. But I should never assume that.

Meh, diversity is overrated. You gonna read the Chronicles, Raen?

Oh, we're plenty diverse. Just not racially.

You have no idea how nice it is to hear this stated, Don. UF has had a diversity campaign going on for at least the past five years. While I have no problem with the intent behind the campaign, there's only so much I want to hear about the enthusiastic embracing of "alternative lifestyles," from feminist politics, through Nakba 48, to gay pride.

I have no problems with any of these groups, or the others represented. But when flyers and literature promoting them is hung in the workplace by an actual legitimate office on campus, it gets to be a bit much.

Hmm, I suppose I should answer the questions since I'm here...

nationality - British
race/ethnicity - Caucasian
Where do you live? - Nottinghamshire, UK (until 17th June, at which point I move to Gwynedd, North Wales)
age - 26
Religion - Custom agnostic
introverted/extroverted - Both, depending on my mood
level of education - Some university education in the past, now returning to uni as a mature student
How many hours a day do you spend online? - About three, I reckon. Once I move, that'll be massively diminished.
How many outside friends do you have? - Outside what?
Do you work? Is it a job that requires a computer? - I'm a full time student, currently looking for a summer job. So no.
What type of work do you do? - Student (History With Archaeology)
Do you go to school? - Yes, I'm a student. How many times?
Are you single/ Married? - Not married, not single
What do you like most about your online group of friends? - They're generally far more intelligent the majority of people I know in person
Has anyone dated anyone in the group of online friends? - No idea.
How often do you speak to each other when your not online? - Darth phones me a couple of times a year
How many hours a week do you work, if you do work? - I don't. See earlier questions.

I'm aware this survey is supposed to be in good fun...but don't you think that's a sweeping generalization to make about the Watch?
And not as diverse as you think you all are.
And I'm not sure how to take that. Those words sound judgmental to me.

Kind of a loaded question. Maybe it's true. I'll certainly agree that the Chronicles aren't exactly selling like hotcakes in China. But that's not SRD's fault. So is it something intrinsic about SRD's brand of fantasy or style of writing that limits its appeal to "other" races? Or might it be reverse xenophobia against Western literature that is the reason?

On a lighter note, this is an interesting survey. But if you really want to know us Watchers, then simply do a search of the various "who are you/what kind of___are you" quiz threads that are strewn throughout this forum. The cumulative data from these quizzes tells me that I'm a Unitarian Universalist with a robotic personality, that I may have been Pope Stephen VI in my previous life, but never mind that, cuz in my present life I merely think I'm Captain Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager. No wonder I'm a confused human being.

I guess I just woke up on the wrong side of bed today.

I'll have you know, Cag, that I'm not just a loser, but a great procrastinator as well. I'd go prove it, but I don't feel like it right now...
