Not quite as clever as Time Bandits, but it certainly is clever. But on the whole, it is a fairy tale that seems pretty obvious what direction it is going, but there certainly is some cruelty for humor's sake, and it would definitely stack this up above many of the rest of the "fairytale" movies. If you've read any Neil Gaiman, you will pretty much know what to expect.

Tam and I just came back from the film--it was fun. Thought Nic, Dakota and Sam saved it--predictable? So what...I think the sequel will have to explain things a lot more, Craig's role has to be expanded-looking forward to the next one.

Fixed.
Anyway I thought it would be rubbish and only went for Iorek (the bear).
Here's the kind of thinking a man can get behind.

In all honesty I was actually disappointed by the bear fight scene.

RAAARRGH!
Sorry, er...

Yeah, real Polar Bear fights aren't exactly spectacular in the typical Hollywood style, but I had a sense of power and struggle from that scene.

It could have been the description in the book adding to the visuals though.

Anyway...

RaaaAAARRRGGHH!
and stuff

Yeah...it was considerably more of a "bitch slap" fight, wasn't it?
