Bad, Bad, Cleveland Browns

Time will tell... I personally think the man is a good coach, and he helped his cause by trading for a handful of players that have proven themselves to be NFL players by virtue of withstanding all the rigors etc...
I just wish I never hear again the man being called anything other than his name. Mangenius, no. Mangina, please, no. Give this guy a break!

Unfortunately for Browns fans the story is the same every year , new additions to the team cause rampant speculation about the teams future success. Fans want to believe that their team has taken the right steps to improve, and succeed in the coming season, but their is really no way to tell until the season is upon you, and the team takes the field. The so called experts almost always get it wrong. Many of these "experts" had the Browns slated as contenders for a ring last season, and being a life long fan of my hometown team I drank the Kool Aid. We finished 4-12. You may ask how could they get it so wrong? That is easily answered. They know nothing!
We believe ,what we want to believe, often with very little to base our faith on, but the proof is in the pudding. This year the experts believe we will do nothing, and that gives me a little hope, because I have been witness to just how wrong they can be. Now dont take this the wrong way, I dont fall asleep every night mumbling Super Bowl to myself, winning our division would be sufficient, but I would settle for just winning 1 of the 2 vs. the Steelers. That would get a huge monkey off our backs. Now some Steelers fans (especially the ones that I know) will scoff at this, but to them I would say remember what we did to the undefeated Super Bowl Champs last season, the Giants can tell you that every Dog Pound has its day.

Oh, come one...even after that game against cincy where he threw for 400_+ yards...despite picking him up, I knew there was something about Derrick - he wasn't a good player...but people would think he was for another year.
But, alas, I have sympathy for Browns fans...I'm a Packer fan...and not even the Magik man, Don Makowski and Sterling Sharpe were enough to bring the Packers of the 80s into the black.

The Browns post their first win of the season in week 5 vs. the Buffalo Bills. It is being called the ugliest game ever played. 6-3 the Browns win it in the closing minute of the game with their second field goal. As far as being ugly, that would apply to the offensive production of both teams, but I also thought that both defenses played well. I would give credit for the win to punter Dave Zastudil who pinned the Bills on their 1 yd. line on 2 consecutive punts late in the 4th quarter. Ugly maybe but a win is a win, at least thats what I hear.

Some people will label a win "ugly" but I have never seen anyone turn one down. Go Browns! [That may seem to be a stange thing for a life-long Pittsburgh fan to say, but I have always rooted for the Bengals and Browns when they weren't playing the Steelers. Can't explain it.]Mr. Broken wrote:...a win is a win, at least thats what I hear.

This thread has become painful to keep up with. To see such a once proud and storied franchise reduced to this is shameful. To see how the media (NFL network, ESPN, etc.) not only aggravate the situation, but present such a slanted view on the whole thing makes me sick. The agenda seems to be based around forcing the franchise out of Cleveland again. For what ? So that they can fill the new stadium that the "Governator" is having built in L.A.? Its not like the Browns dont have fans, the stadium is always full. Now the proposed fan boycott for next weeks MNF game threatens to tip the balance in a direction that no one can forsee. The owner Randy Lerner seems to be incapable of choosing between the fans and the media. What a mess.

Ill believe it when I see it, Holmgren is testing the waters with his big toe, he makes a ripple that gets people in Cleveland all excited about the possibility of him going there, the ripple reaches the other side of the pond and people in Seattle start thinking hey werent we trying to get M.H. to be our GM. He's just trying to push up his own value. Like I said Ill believe it when I see it.

He was both head coach and general manager in Seattle for a few years, but lost the front office title in 2002. It's possible that he would accept the GM role for the Hawks again, but retracing ground he's covered before is not really his style.
We'll see what happens, but I don't expect him back in Seattle as their GM.

The way that Cleveland will rebuild is the way most franchises rebuild. Draft or trade for a QB that can play in the NFL. Build your O-line around him and voila!
The only franchise I can think of that actually won without a QB is Baltimore with Dilfer but that defense was extraordinary.
Get yourself a real QB!

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. I have to congratulate the Lions, I guess. That being said the current state of officiating in the NFL is lousy. Current state? Hell its been lousy for years. The pass interference call that set the Lions up to win the game, should have been offset by an unsportmanlike conduct on the Lions when their receivers coach ran halfway across the field to congratulate his player. Oh well. Thats the NFL. They call it like they see it, and what they dont see never happened.
