Iron Man $298,639,217 it WILL happen this week. Nice.
Over half a billion world wide so far.

HULK $61,424,455 so far after less than a week. Not terrific but momentum could still be built up. I expect a $200 mil chance isn't out of the question. Not a giant blockbuster like Shellhead but respectable and certainly better than the 130mil+ showing for the first Hulk film.

Gotta admit, I'm surprised that The Hulk isn't doing better. Probably because of the poor effort last time out (which I didn't see).

Or in my case, because of the abundance of reviews that state it's mindless, shallow action, and I just haven't been in the mood for that lately (not that I never am.. it has it's place ).

Meh, I wouldn't call it mindless and shallow, it's just not the character study that the TV series was.

Well they tried the dark, innovative, character/motivation driven approach last time and most people just yawned. It also didn't help matters that the end of the first film was as ambiguous and confusing to the average audience member as the end of 2001. The new film is trying very hard to be true to the source material and remain entertaining. I wish the Ang Lee version hadn't been filmed since it seems to have left a bad taste in the mouth of so many people who are choosing NOT to see the new film.
Of course I myself haven't seen it but I do intend to.

I'll tell you what I think about it after seeing it this evening. I don't see how it can top Ang Lee's good-old-fashioned-gamma-poodle-thrashin'

OK. I've seen the Hulk movie, and I must say I enjoyed it immensely. It was far superior to its Ang Lee predecessor - which I don't think deserved quite as much of a drubbing as it took, btw. [getting to watch Jennifer Connolly compensates for a lot ] In the prior film, I could see what the director was going for - to elevate a well-known and 'deep' comic book character to a high-art level. Comic books rock - but they don't do that. Even though he used the split screen effect to make it look like the panels of a comic book, he somehow made it simultaneously seem less and less like a comic book at all. But enough about the old movie.

The new Hulk movie was very good. I think it hit the right action movie notes, it moved the comic book story arc forward, and most importantly it added another several fine frames to the cinematic Marvel juggernaut that is being assembled (heh) in the upcoming IM sequel, Thor, and Avengers movies.

I liked this movie's CGI better than the last. Sure, Hulk sort of does have a TomCruise haircut - or perhaps it just confirms that Tom Cruise might be a CGI creature himself. ["There is no couch...?"]

I won't lie - there were some pokey moments in the film that coud have been edited better, but overall I was very pleased. I don't think it was as good a movie experience as Iron Man, but it was close enough: not only did I feel my movie money was well spent, I'll probably go see it again when it shifts to the Five Buck Club.

That's good enough for me Dukkha. Actually I would have seen the film in any case but it's nice to hear that someone enjoyed it for the same reasons I believe I will enjoy it.


Iron Man hit $299,319,470 on Tuesday. Wednesday must have been the $300mil day though it won't be reported until tomorrow.

Hulk moves along with a total of $66,226,305 but we've only got box office estimates for 6 days thus far. Looks like it will reach 70mil by the weekend and top 100 mil by Monday. I'm getting a bit worried about Hulk reaching 200 mil but Iron Man is still reporting after 48 days. Based on this Hulk has plenty of time to pay for itself and then some.

Hulk's biggest logistical problem is becoming lost to other comics movies and mega movies that need lots of theaters set to come out very soon on its heels:
Get Smart (20-Jun)
Wall-E (27-Jun)
Wanted (27-Jun)
Hancock (2-Jul)
Hellboy II (11-Jul)
The Dark Knight (18-Jul)

Anyone know how much this Hulk cost to make?

Box Office Mojo lists the HULK's budget at $150 mil. Iron Man had a budget of $140 mil. I doubt Hulk will realize the same profit margin as Shellhead but it just might make Universal and Marvel a few bucks. What we DON'T want to see is a repeat of HULK 03. With a budget of $137 mil, Hulk pulled in only $132 mil domestically though it did make some money pulling in $245 mil world wide.

IM $309,179,318. Top 25 all time domestic earnings. Nice.

HULK $$115,859,210 is $34mil away from the base goal. At this rate it's going to be slow if we make it at all. Here's hoping.
