When we were in London over Christmas (OMG, how pretentious is that? "When we were in London over Christmas...") (anyway, carrying on now...), we visited the Galleries at the British Library. It's got, y'know, the Magna Carta and Shakespeare's Folio and Da Vinci's notebook and a Gutenberg Bible and a bunch of illuminated manuscripts and old maps and whatnot. But they *also* had on display the original manuscripts for books by some of England's best-known authors: Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, and, OMG, the original manuscript for Jane Eyre. It was open to the page where Mr. Rochester proposes. I just stood there and stared, went round the room to look at other stuff, then came back and stared some more. It was awesome.
Oh, yeah, there was also a display of Beatles stuff, including the scrap of paper upon which Paul wrote the lyrics to "Yesterday".
This was probably my favorite stop on the whole trip!

She's the most well-connected to the Longbourn family, knew Elizabeth best, and probably guessed what was happening between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. She lets something slip, or reads a letter from home, in front of Mr. Collins, who of course tells Lady Catherine.
In the essay about this, the writer suggests that Charlotte Collins (née Lucas) did it out of spite, because (being stuck with the odious Mr. Collins) she resented the possibility of Elizabeth's happiness with Darcy. I don't know if I buy that, but I certainly agree that the news must have come from her.

seems to me as though i should read these books instead of just watching the movies if only to know half as much as u all know about miss Austin but i'm afraid that they put all the best bits in the movies lol

I just LOVE Jane Asuten. She was such a intelligent and witty woman - this is obvious from her books. My favourite is Pride and Prejudice - I've read it hundreds of times! Closely followed by Persuasion - the BBC adaptation some years ago with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root was such so beautifully done - it really captured the essence of love lost and found. Wonderful!

I liked Jane a lot as the Bionic woman, but Steve Austen's Bionic man was even better!
