you know you're right furls
but what of that thing you discovered about the original name of LFB - Lord Foul's Servant

wasnt that to indicate TC? .. ''
dammit .. i forget now your entire line of arguement on the other thread .. but it was convincing whatever it was

LOL Sky!! Hell, I don't even remember what I say half the time...
But to me, "Foul's Servant" would have been Drool. He's the one that did all his dirty work for him in LFB.
Covenant wasn't Foul's servant, tho he thought he was at times. Foul coerced Drool into summoning white gold to the Land, and the Creator stepped in and "chose" Covenant. But, that's all he did. Covenant had to have free will in the Land. He couldn't be a "tool".
Now, I KNOW I said that in some other thread somewhere...LOL!!!
Ya know, I DO talk too much....

ahh hah!! but how could drool have been a threat.danger or even a bane to Foul?
by his stupidity? I wonder if this really was Drool

I mean you could be perfectly on the money here .. but I think in Foul's arrogance he intended for TC to be his servant, to act for him, even to supply him the white gold means of his escape.
I think .. TC could well have been Foul's intended servant .. but Foul wasnt that clever .. as the Creator chose him .. and he underestimated .. as the antagonist are prone to do .. the will and strength of TC and his potential to become his greatest threat .. and .. well .. a protagonist afterall.

Maybe, but if you look at what Foul says to Covenant on Kevin's Watch, Foul was very much at Drool's mercy. "I tell you, Drool has the Staff and that is a cause for terror." Foul couldn't touch the Staff. If the Lord's failed to retrieve it, and Drool somehow mastered it, unearthed the Stone and KEPT it, Foul would have had a hell of a time.
Foul DID want Covenant as his servant. But, in the case of the title "Lord Foul's Servant"..I really think it meant Drool.
I don't think we are talking about the "bane of Foul's existance."...I think we are talking about the "bane" that Foul coveted more then anything...The Illearth Stone, and the "servant" was the one who got it for him...Drool.

Are we considering how much SRD likes puns?

yes HAHAHAHAAHA LOL
analysing to death .. these small decisions <who or what is LF's bane> too literally leaves us losing SRD's acute sense of wit.
If he read some of the things we scrutinise to death .. I am sure he would be rolling on the floor laughing his ass off .. just to think of our level of nit-picking .. LOL

Do you think SRD would approve of the concept of fun?
Sure doesn't show in his books.

Oh, I don't know Landwaster...he did have Covenant splash Vain in Andelain. And he did have Covenant and Linden giggling like kids in Glimmermere..
He's not all doom and gloom

you must be kidding?? SRD must have a great sense of humour .. I see it in TCTC and it is even evident in the Gap series .. oh yeah and MN too!!
i gained this opinion from his books

lol
but then maybe i am easily amused

many a time laughing out loud at something Bannor would un-emtovely say or do .. or Foamy .. Mhoram .. or even something TC himself would do .. or his reaction to some trouble he would find himself in ..
its not a comic hoot .. granted .. but like Tolkien there is humour and a light hearted side to his writing too

.. just imho ..

SRD -- FUN???

"The Djinn Who Watches Over the Accursed" is laugh-out-loud funny. THE MAN WHO FOUGHT ALONE has laugh-up-your-sleeve fun. Damn right he can be funny.
(Do you suppose Landwaster is being sarcastic???

)

Actually no I wasn't being sarcastic ... but I was oversimplifying for my own personal amusement, referring to the horribly depressing scenarios he puts his characters in.
Yeah, true, some of his stuff is downright Hollywood Bowl ... and one of my favourite quotes "stop giving me that blank look" is not least among them!

How about
"By hell," Covenant muttered. "By hell."
"Indeed?" said Amok with a boyish grin that seemed to light up the laughing curls of his hair. "Well, that is not for me to say."
Amok absolutely kills me!
