Weretiger's Curse - The mission

I will be frank with you, I don't know. I will speak with my companions later and we will come up with a plan."Sheriff wrote: "We have not laid any traps. One tiger attack is nothing to get excited about, and once it had attacked a second time we decided to call for adventurers to help. Do you think traps would be a good idea? I know about fighting and swordplay, but I'm not really familiar with hunting animals. Is this how you plan to kill the beast?"
*blushing furiously*apothecary wrote:"Why are you casting a message spell? Is there something you have to say that can't be shared with everyone else?"
"No...not really.
I guess I need more practice...
"I thank you sincerely for the information on alchemical silver. I have little knowledge on lycanthropes, and any more information we can glean is welcome indeed.
"In fact, perhaps I can spend some time learning more about them. Is there a library in town, which has a reference section on monsters? I might do a little research in there..."

Xavier frowned abruptly. A magic user. Wouldn't you know it. This adventure was rapidly losing its positives...he hated magic. And usually, by extension, magic users as well.
Clerics weren't so bad...at least, the good ones weren't. Downright useful, and usually charmingly humble, unfailingly polite, he got along with Clerics just fine. They usually had more important things to bother with than him anyway.
Magic users though...he shuddered. As if some magical beast wasn't bad enough.
Still...at least it cleared up the mystery of what use the elf maid had thought she'd be...

The beggar has nothing to fear from the thief.
Vargon seemed lost in his thoughts.
"Sheriff, i'm sorry i know you must rest, but i have few questions...
Why a tiger, "were" or not, should attack the militia and then run away without feed?
What interest could have such kind of creature in killing innocents and miltia troopers? I wonder..."

Irian turned away in disappointment. Then turned back, with a pleading look on her face.apothecary wrote:"This is but a small town, there is no library here. You'll have to get the information you need elsewhere."
"Is there anyone in town, or perhaps you have heard of others passing through, who may have such knowledge? Or perhaps someone in town would have a collection on the subject they would be willing to share for our, or my at least, perusal?
"I have my suspicions as to the nature of this beast, but I do not know enough..."

The sheriff replies:Vargon wrote:What interest could have such kind of creature in killing innocents and miltia troopers? I wonder..."
"Why does anyone do anything? I can't explain the actions of a tiger any more than I can explain why the elf keeps asking irrelevant questions!"
"I don't know. How do you expect me to know if anyone knows anything about something I hadn't even heard about 5 minutes ago? Your questions are beginning to become irritating.""Is there anyone in town, or perhaps you have heard of others passing through, who may have such knowledge? Or perhaps someone in town would have a collection on the subject they would be willing to share for our, or my at least, perusal?

Again blushing, Irian then dropped to a curtsy.
"We have taxed you beyond what any recuperating invalid should have to put up with. I, for one, am sincerely grateful for everything you have told us. I can not speak for my companions, but with your leave I shall now depart to allow you your rest."
With that she rose, cast a grateful look towards Roger, the apothecary, and then went outside to await the others.

Vargon bowed, then he asked for the blessing of pelor to the apothecary...
Then he followed his lady.
"We need the right equipment to face the beast... but i still think the best way to solve the puzzle without blood is to catch the weretiger before the full moon, although i don't know how!"
he shook his head...

Irian quickly looks at Vargon.
"My friend, let us allow the mayor's assistant to guide us to the blacksmith so we can arrange things there. We can discuss other things when we have time to hash it out. We really shouldn't tie up this fine official's time much longer."

Irian stopped.
Her frustration at not being understood was peaking.
Glancing ahead to make sure the mayor's assistant who was guiding the group was moving beyond earshot, she turned and looked her escort dead in the eye.
"Darkbringer," she snarled as quietly as she could and still be heard, gritting her teeth. "Listen to me. If this tiger is a lycanthrope, it could be anyone. I have so little information on them. I do not know how much of their humanoid counterpart's intelligence they retain, and I am concerned if we talk where anyone can overhear us, we may warn a potential lycanthrope to our plans.
"Please, wait until our group is alone.
Or at least out of earshot of anyone who has heard us say 'lycanthrope.' Once the mayor's assistant takes his leave, I will feel more at ease discussing this."
Glancing ahead once again to verify no one noticed she had stopped, she scurried after those following the mayor's assistant.

Brother Charn hastened to keep up with the group, without disturbing the obviously private conversation between Irian and her protector. He looked around to make certain Roark was still with them. A quiet one, be he...

As they followed the mayor's assistant, Irian found herself near Brother Charn. Smiling up at him she said, "It is good the sheriff is recovering from his wounds, unlike the others the tiger attacked. As a healer yourself, do you feel we overtaxed him? Do you think we should speak with him again prior to the full moon once he has rested?"

Charn slows, and pitches his voice low, so the assistant cannot hear. "The apothecary tells me the sheriff be healed up nicely - but has not shared the news with him, to stay him from hunting the beast that nearly killed him the first time. It be a kindly lie to tell."
"If other questions arise, we be in no fear of harming the sheriff by asking him - no harm but to his pride, mayhap." Charn smiles.

"Do you mean to say his wounds are mostly healed? But, the way they were described, should they not have taken longer?" Irian quietly asked in puzzlement. "My own knowledge of Healing is slight, though I have some. I guess it has been nearly a month since the last full moon and the attack...
"Should we recruit him to our cause then? He does know the area, more so than any of us it would seem..."

[ooc] DM, Charn has knowledge of healing - does the speed of healing of the sheriff's wounds seem abnormal to him? Unsure whether this requires a Heal check? A wisdom roll?[/ooc]
