If the reporting states keep going the way htey're going, McCain will only end up with 165 versus Obama's 259. Florida is going to be a crucial state.
This is a much tighter race than I had anticipated.

That's the odd thing, the CNN map shows Obama but the actual votes counted so far show McCain ahead with 62% of the vote. Things like that scare me.

Yeah, the Yahoo map is weird, too. It says Obama won Iowa, but no votes were reported?

Now New Mexico is showing Obama 50% to McCain 49%.

interesting..im listening to NPR,,and their take is.. Bush took theses States to get to 270..If Obama takes the same states as Kerry did,,how many and which ones does Obama need to take from the red states of 2004? So Far..Ohio,,Iowa and New Mex ..going Obama,,is all that Obama needs,,if he holds on to the states that Kerry took.

Yes, what I heard was that, now that Obama has Ohio, as long as he holds onto the states that Kerry won, he will be the winner.

Utah is showing Obama ahead in actual vote count. That's weird.

I'm hearing on Fox (the local channel, not Fox network) that the McCain camp are saying that they see no road to victory. With California almost a given for Obama (55 electoral votes), and Obama at 207 and needing 270 to win, that essentially means that Obama is at 262. 8 more is needed, and Colorado alone looks like it is going to Obama with 9 electoral votes. Looks like it is done, other than seeing it play out.
McCain must be preparing his concession speech. Once I hear those words, "My friends...", I'm going to bed.
Udall (the democrat candidate for senator in Colorado) is pretty much giving his win speech now.
And I'm very happy to see that the Amendment to the Colorado constitution to define a person as upon fertilization (thus making abortion illegal) is losing handily. 75% no. Yay!
Update:
Fox is now calling Virginia for Obama, putting him at 220. With California, it is over.

They haven't started updating California yet.

Yeah, the polls haven't closed yet, which is why. But seriously...do you think California could possibly go to McCain? It is almost always a given.

No. But seriously, there are so many states that are so close I am nervous. And Florida is still not done so we have chad to worry about.

Like Lurch said - Florida doesn't matter. According to the talking heads, Obama is predicted at 220. All he needs is 270, and winning California will put him at 275.

It's done.
All done.

*nodding*
ABC News just gave Obama California, Oregon, and Washington, making the electoral college 284/145.
But again, that is all based on exit polls, as the polls just closed there. Although it looks like Oregon has already started reporting heavily in favor of Obama.

My congratulations to Mr. Obama!
Wow. The first African-American President-elect. That fact is finally hitting me now. What an incredible moment for the United States!
