And for Bluegrass enthusiasts I think you'll really enjoy this clip of The Tennesse Stud performed by a great ensemble that includes Doc Watson, Ricky Scaggs, Earl Scruggs and Hal Ketchum...

Anyone ever own "White Mansions"? Some of the best country ever.

Also, Country gained some self-respect back last night. The Chicks won a bunch of Grammys...first time sime 1969 that country did so well among the giants of the business. Nashville has offically lost its balls...but then, any fan of real county knew that for years.

Everyone knows that the Grammys won by the Dixie Chicks had nothing to do with the quality of their music and everything to do with their politics. The Grammys are completely irrelevant. Remember, these are the same group of people who once gave Bruce Hornsby a Grammy for Best Bluegrass album.

And the same people that gave Jethro Tull a Grammy for Best Metal.

This was clearly a statement.

Agreed. But the whole controversy about their statement is just a nonissue, IMO.

There is definitely some evil in country music. Faith Hill should have been tarred feathered and drawn and quartered for EVER having the sheer gall of covering Janice Joplin's "Piece of my Heart." It's sacrilege I tell you!

Country as a general category or a specific type of music?

I hate the neo-country crap. Stuff about how my truck breaks down and anyone brown isn't american.

But I really love the blue-grass scene.

I know! Eveyone that puts on a Carheart jacket nowadays is suddenly a "redneck".

You need to have lived with an outhouse to be a redneck in my eyes.

I'll ay this though... the Chicks album though actually is a great country album! Their last two in fact are great country records. As opposed to the first few they had which were that countrified pop crap that Nashville LIKES to put out.

Yes, I'd be a fool not to admit that art of the reason they got so many awards was owing the fact that the industry felt it was time to reward them (no one really stuck up for them in '03)...but the fact that this record is so damn good, made the move defensible.

I haven't listened to the album so I can't say. However, "not ready to make nice" being song of the year - well, remember what you said once about Toby Keith's "The Angry American?" I put the Dixie Chicks song in that same category.

Clearly. Hopefully the irony isn't lost on either the Chicks, Mr.Keith, or their fans.

But being the bumpkins they are, it probably is.

Agreed. If you like country music though check out the cjicks and check out the likes of Dwight Yoakam, Hank Williams III, and Allison Moorer.
