Ummm. That came across a lot grumpier than I had intended. Sorry to anyone who has taken offence. My last post wasn't dirrected at anyone personally, it was jsut my point of view, compounded by my frustration at the rain and my homework.

I think the "celebration" threads are harmless...if anyone doesn't want to read them, they certainly have the choice not to do so, as with any other thread or subject...BUT if they are annoying to some members, and itr appears as if they are, perhaps combining them into one big thread or making a little forum for them as in MsMary's example should be done.

As far as what I meant about the tangents... imo, it's all good as long as it stays TC related and in a similar... mood, I guess... as the original post. I'm not talking black and white, either. Tons of grey. It's just a matter of discretion.
I am in agreement with this point. I am as guilty of going off in tangents as anyone else, but I for one will try to be more careful in the future, as I myself can find a thread going off in a completely unrelated direction to be annoying from time to time.

Celebration topics... well, imo, I think they are a little overdone. We don't exactly need one for every person for every 1000 mark. A combined one might be a good idea.

lol this is turning into a quote syl-fest!! LOL
i completely agree .. tangents are inevitable part of a discussion board imho .. notwithstanding their occassional irritation to some .. we're not going to combat this entirely .. anyway i dont mind a bit of harmless fun .. even when it borders on the inane
but celebrating posts .. every thousand .. just perpetuates the notion that post count is more valued than post quality .. and hence the ever growing anything posts .. posting for racking up posts sake .. and thats imho .. really clogs up an active board like this and creates some of the tension that is witnessed occassionally ..
we are not our post count .. as syl so often says

.. not that syl is our resident oracle lol .. however .. this is a view that we could benefit from not perpetuating .. Members regardless of their post count ..
some of our best imho .. members are so busy with RL .. they cant visit as often as they would like .. but make some of the best posts and .. and are some of the best and brightest among us ..
i dont want to mention names LOL .. but earthy amy brinn .. ali .. and so many many others come to mind .. even Hearthcoal .. who is sooo busy in RL .. but has been one of our brightest members of all time. How we cope without her librarian-like linking and organising skills is difficult to say .. and there are so many others ..
this imho .. is an egalitarian board .. where all members are considered equal .. regardless of length of membership .. or whether there are mods or even admin ..
not even the admins .. have ever lauded their postion over this community .. notwithstanding their final word on questions of board controversy ..
its all good

mmm ... i'm glad i went back to the beginning of this thread
Fist and Faith wrote: I doubt anybody has more posts consisting of nothing more than a

than Sky,
wow i'd like to challenge that theory!

.. i think if we calculated all the posts ever made .. over the time of both Kevins Watch's .. i'd be one of the longest posters here ..
i do love using smilie dudes .. i have never used them just to rack up a post .. in the last few years .. i have less to say on topics that i have already been involved with .. many many times before .. so i tend to post more briefly .. and sometimes a smiley can say more
i dont consider myself involved in this post war ethos .. and infact i dont actually like this post war thing .. it imho is detrimental to board harmony .. lol .. i have a lot of posts .. thats true .. but i have been around a lot longer than most .. and in truth i am not a mega poster per se .. i have had long absences when life demands attention .. as it does

..
it took me a long time to post the majority of my posts .. and a lot of them i brought with me from the old board ..

so i always had an unfair advantage over the newer comers .. but thats inevitable ..
older members will inevitably have greater posts than .. a new member ..
i think the point is that we shouldnt focus on post quantity .. but rather each other as members for what we each bring .. regardless of how many posts are under our belt.
cos its meaningless .. it will probably just mean you've been around a bit longer .. and really .. so what??
