i'm posting in this thread because i am, once again, as of this coming friday, gainfully unemployed.
the universe is trying to tell me something but damned if i know what the hell it is!!
everytime beren shoes gets low on cash and business starts to slow down for the season they can me. i'm not friggin goin back there again.
my only regret is that the job hunting thing has changed soooo much and
you can't just go get a newspaper and pound the pavement anymore.
gotta do the pavement pounding out here in the innerwebz ether. yuck.
i do better just walking into someplace and asking if i can fill out an application.
bookstores all over SF are closing right and left, which would be my first choice in looking for a new place to work. sad, sad panda.
hope you all don't mind if i come here for support from time to time.
I'm sorry you are going through that (again). it sucks to live so tenuously.

Oh man, I am so sorry, luci.
I don't blame you -- I wouldn't go back there again, either.

I'd try applying to bookstores anyway, Luci. I can't imagine that they would all close down, and the ones that don't would see a spike in business.

Sadly, not necessarily the case.
Also thanks to the interwebz - i.e. Amazon.com, half.com, etc. Especially sad as physical bookstores are fun places & I wished more existed.
Lucimay- you hanging around here more? Oh nooo!

Yea, you could try looking on Ebay for local auctions, the ones that survive could have Ebay stores, and you may find them that way

Sorry to hear it Lucimay. It might be a fruitless venture, but I'd say do the application thing anyway. Hell, the intarweb method is typically just as fruitless, at least has been my experience.
One last selfish thing - This won't stop you from coming to Elohimfest, will it? I hope not, but then, I'm selfish.

hahahaa!!! nooooo, it won't stop me at all. tickets already bought and paid for dude. accomodations are as well. and if they weren't, i'd just hobo on my girlfriend daniella's couch (she lives just a few blocks from danlo and tam)
AND...i've decided NOT to look at customer service jobs.
i'm sorta tired of it. i saw an add on craigslist for a sammich maker
in a little sammie shop in the haight.
i think that sounds like fun. and you know what? i NEED to have
some FUN.

so i'm gonna apply for jobs that look FUN to me.

we'll see how THAT pans out.
i am 52 but i think i look a little younger so maybe they won't
hold my elderlyness against me. keep all yer fingers and toes
crossed my little forum bublets!!
oh also i've decided that i need to...make some amends to the
universe (and others) so i've decided that while i am unemployed
and looking for work, i'm going to go volunteer somewhere to help
somebody. i just feel like its the right thing to do right now.
at the very least it will keep me busy and not as apt to get depressed.

Good plan, luci. I've always said if you're not having fun in your job, what's the point?

Also, sometimes volunteer gigs morph into paid gigs. Fingers crossed for you.

I'm once again employed. And not a minute too soon, as my unemployment ran out a few weeks back. I agree with Luci, you should find work you enjoy doing. I've always liked what I do. Luci, I hope you find something fun, and soon. I also hope this job lasts a lot longer than the last 2 I had!

I got a job today. It wasn't my ideal choice (male servant for a bi-curious lesbian sorority), but it's 40 hours a week. Decent pay and will get to use my muscles outside the gym, moving stuff for a mattress company.
Woop. Between this and a new church my sense of purpose has sky-rocketed.
