Oh dear! I had no idea you had undergone surgery Sarge. Good that you seem up and appear to be your usual self. Fingers crossed for "no secondary infection" and against other complications.
Get well soon.
And damned I'm glad that I don't have to be around when they open that cast

I've had a cast on my leg for six weeks when I broke my ankle in college. They did re-do the cast once the swelling went down, about two weeks after the break, but just sawed off the original cast and put a new one on, with minimal handling of the limb.
The worst part, in my experience, is that the accumulated dead skin, which usually is sloughed off in the shower and with normal movement, all gets trapped under the cast, so there's quite a build up of it when the cast comes off. And it gets pretty itchy under the cast. Women have the additional problem of not having been able to shave the leg while the cast is on - though I was a non leg shaving hippie at the time.

I think I grossed out the person who took off the cast when I told him I didn't normally shave my legs anyway.

Effaeldm - thank you!
prebe - i am about ready to gnaw the damn cast off. the guaze is driving me nuts. they put me on antibiotics in the hospital, so i haven't seen any reinfection signs.
ms.mary - itchy is long past.

i see why animals gnaw off limbs. and i don't shave my legs - so the hair will be coming off when they take off the old guaze.

Knitting needles - best thing for itches under plaster. I've been in plaster 3 times, same leg, for about 3 weeks each.
Hope you get that plaster off soon Sarge.

I have never had to wear a cast, Hallelujah, but my husband says a coat hanger is better because you can make a bit of a hook on the end. Plus mrs null may not want you using her knitting needles cause that's kinda gross.
Quick recovery, sarge!!

Knitting needles or wire hangers are probably incompatible with the wound from the surgery, so I'd go easy

Plus, with the knitting needles, you've got a handy weapon if the doc makes a wrong move when the cast comes off.
