Vraith - we were wondering if they hung around the fishing boats. You would think that we would find at least one stray pelican.

We are on the ninth floor. There are signs everywhere saying not to feed the gulls. And yet every time the sun is out and I step out onto the balcony, the gulls fly up expecting food.

Is that picture out of some sort of Turtle Kama Sutra?

Unless I'm very confused [always a possibility], no turtle would be caught dead in that scene...or more accurately IF a turtle was in that scene it WOULD be dead...cuz them's tortoises, and I don't think there's a combination moisturizer/sunblock anywhere in the world that gets a turtle into that shot that's fit for anything except roadkill turtle soup.

Your post has some homophonic relationship with the actual truth. There is another Watcher out there, Zarathustra, whose name here sounds much like Kama Sutra...sort of.

Consider deer's stone tortoises (Vraith, dare I say torti?) in relationship with Zarathustra's avatar, then draw your own conclusion.

not sure what those tortoises are trying to do, but that doesn't seem to be the way to do it.

I bet you do. ;)
Makes sense to me.
Locus, Loci
Torus, Tori
Porpoise, Porpi.

 Those "stone torti" are simply dusty torti, very much alive, and very much gettin' it done. (I took the picture and they were making their enjoyment very obvious.) ;)

I'll take porpi and torti with a grain of salt (or a nice garlic mayonnaise  ), but it did lead me to (by accident) discover a new word:
portoise: the gunwale (or gunnel) of a ship

King Of Turtles

A thumbnail sketch, an aquamarine stone
A mean shell to call my home
Old terrapin don't lay so still you're not yet young
There's time to teach, point to point,
Point observation, hatchlings carry reservations
Standing on the shoulders of ectotherms, leaves me cold, leaves me cold
A mean shell to call my home, a hundred million turtles swim

Singer sing me a river, singer sing me a pond
Standing on the shoulders of ectotherms everybody's looking on
(Old terrapin don't lay so still you're not yet young,
There's time to teach, point to point,
Point observation, hatchlings carry reservations)
Standing on the shoulders of ectotherms leaves me cold
A mean shell to call my home, a hundred million turtles swim away, away, away

I am king of all I see, my kingdom for a
carrot
Old terrapin don't lay so still, you're not yet young
There's time to teach, point to point
Point observation, hatchlings carry reservations
Standing on the shoulders of ectotherms, leaves me cold, leaves me cold
A main shell to call my home, a hundred million turtles swim away, away, away

Everybody hit the pond, everybody hit the pond
Everybody hit the pond, everybody hit the pond
Everybody hit the pond, everybody hit the pond
Everybody hit the pond, everybody hit the pond

Terrapin Station-- Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter

Let my inspiration flow in token rhyme, suggesting rhythm,
That will not forsake you, till my tale is told and done.
While the firelights aglow, strange shadows from the flames will grow,
Till things weve never seen will seem familiar.

Shadows of a sailor, forming winds both foul and fair all swarm.
Down in carlisle, he loved a lady many years ago.
Here beside him stands a man, a soldier from the looks of him,
Who came through many fights, but lost at love.

While the story teller speaks, a door within the fire creaks;
Suddenly flies open, and a girl is standing there.
Eyes alight, with glowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair,
She takes her fan and throws it, in the lions den.

Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.
The sailor gave at least a try, the soldier being much too wise,
Strategy was his strength, and not disaster.

The sailor, coming out again, the lady fairly leapt at him.
That's how it stands today. you decide if he was wise.
The story teller makes no choice. soon you will not hear his voice.
His job is to she'd light, and not to master.

Since the end is never told, we pay the teller off in gold,
In hopes he will return, but he cannot be bought or sold.

Terrapin station

Inspiration, move me brightly. light the song with sense and color;
Hold away despair, more than this I will not ask.
Faced with mysteries dark and vast, statements just seem vain at last.
Some rise, some fall, some climb, to get to terrapin.

Counting stars by candlelight, all are dim but one is bright;
The spiral light of venus, rising first and shining best,
On, from the northwest corner, of a brand new crescent moon,
While crickets and cicadas sing, a rare and different tune,
Terrapin station.

In the shadow of the moon, terrapin station.
And I know well get there soon, terrapin station.
I can't figure out, terrapin, if it's the end or beginning, terrapin,
But the trains put it's brakes on, terrapin,
And the whistle is screaming, terrapin.

Terrapin station - at the siding

While you were gone, these faces filled with darkness.
The obvious was hidden. with nothing to believe in,

Sullen wings of fortune beat like rain.
Youre back in terrapin for good or I'll again, for good or I'll again.
