To date, the greatest failure of Marvel Studios is that they haven't done a solo Widow film yet (we can call it "solo" even if one or two other people show up--she would still be the lead). As things stand, DC will trump Marvel because I think Wonder Woman's release date is before Captain Marvel's. No one, even me, counts the earlier solo attempts via Elektra and Catwoman because we all want to forget they happened (from a visual effects point of view Elektra wasn't that bad, though).

marvel needs to get started then. they will have Jessica Jones on Netflix though.

Marvel Studios has now been spun off from Marvel Entertainment and is a direct subsidiary of Disney. On the one hand, Disney is the side accused of wanting things to be Marvel for boys, Disney Princesses for girls; on the other, there's rumour that the exec of Marvel Entertainment is the one who prevented Black Widow toys being made and pushed back the Captain Marvel film. (He's also meant to have put a lot of pressure on Captain America: Civil War to keep the budget down, and from now on the films won't be as restricted.)

I'm kinda with Rigel. Although I didn't see it on the big screen, and I did the first Avengers movie, it was pretty underwhelming. The best parts of it were the more human moments - the talky bits between action, possibly because Joss Whedon dialog tends to be so entertaining to me. The action left me bored. The exception: the "go to sleep. go to sleep. go to sleep" scene. I did really enjoy the last Cap'n America movie as I wasn't expecting a thriller like that.
I have been enjoying "Agents of Shield" more than the average Marvel movie though.

Seriously, Age of Ultron (and Guardians of the Galaxy, which I enjoyed once but I've found doesn't hold up for repeated viewings) spend 70+ minutes on plot so convoluted and unintelligible that the only way to get through it is to ignore it... And then the whole Avengers team decides to retire and bring on the new crew, with a single line of dialogue?!?!?

I don't mind ridiculous movies. Camp and cheese have their place (see: my love for Machete, or Pacific Rim), but the Marvel movies haven't worked for me since the first Iron Man. They've had their moments (IM3's stellar appearance by Ben Kingsley, Thor's whole angst at being a puny human), but overall the style and quality have been trending away from what I appreciate in films.

I kept giving them chances, seeing all of the films, some of them even in theaters. But Age of Ultron is the one that convinced me I don't need to keep doing that. I haven't seen Ant Man, I haven't watched their TV shows, and I'll probably never watch anything else they put out.

I would beg to differ but I don't beg--Guardians is a fun movie. I will admit that trying to watch it every Saturday would get old after 3 or 4 times but revisiting it every 4 months wouldn't wear thin.

My earlier question remains unanswered: how could Thor have known of the Orb? The events of Guardians clearly happen after the events of Dark World so unless Heimdall saw it (why would he be looking at Nowhere, unless he sensed Carina touching the Orb?) or either Hugin or Munin were keeping an eye on the Collector (since Asgard knows he has the Aether) he couldn't possibly know. Or...well, I don't recall what all he saw when he had his visions from the Witch. That could explain it.

I still suspect Thanos already has the Time gem, which will allow him opportunity to get the others whenever he wants to. On the other hand, if he did have it then why use proxies? Why not just go get them and be done with it?

I've only seen Agents of Shield and Daredevil. I do think I'm becoming (or have already become) a Joss Whedon fanboy, but Agents of Shield feels like a Joss Whedon show to me, despite being somewhat in the world of the supers. And I like it - both the dramatic and the funny, but like most Joss shows, suffers from the typical slow start.
Daredevil achieves what typically only Robert Rodriguez can do - makes me look forward to the action scenes. The stunt work on that show is pretty amazing, and fun to watch. I did find myself nodding off a lot during this show, but I was typically watching it while in bed at bedtime, so I blame myself.
I think I've overstuffed my quota for the Marvel universe by trying to catch the movies on video, and watching the shows. And really, I blame Agents of Shield for making me want to see the latest movies so I can understand how things changed.

Would be interesting to see Joss Whedon actually make a Marvel TV series. Some superhero team maybe - Runaways or Young Avengers, perhaps? (Agents of SHIELD showrunners are Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen; Joss only directed the pilot.)

I'd actually like to see both those teams done, if they can be done well. Runaways would make a good TV series and can be done at any time; Young Avengers would have to wait until the main Avengers team break up but could be done as either TV or a movie (of the first storyline).

if he does, it would be cool to see flashes of Marvel's past. the Invaders in WWII, the 50's Avengers (the Atlas Foundation), Freedom's Five in WWI and the 1959 Avengers.
