Glad you liked them.

In case you haven't seen them I am also quite fond of Cinema Sins "Everything wrong with.." series.

Great stuff Tom!

Sarge - me to, but I'll settle for just about anything with Margot Robbie in it at the moment! ;) [Must rewatch The Wolf of Wall Street at some point 8O ]

Good lord. Suicide Squad may have the dumbest plot since Batman and Robin. That's no spoiler. I definitely won't be watching it a second time. I guess I would be more forgiving if I was already a fan of these characters but I am not and I don't have the patience for bad filmmakers anymore. After building me up to be one of the biggest fans of the Christopher Nolan Batman films DC seems hell bent on disintegrating all that good will.

Yeah, it was bad as a plot driven movie but I thought it was good as a showcase for some characters we'll be seeing more of. Movies like this you watch for the one-liners.

Heh. My last post was written just after watching the film and may have been a little harsh. I didn't mean the film wasn't entertaining at times but I guess I'm growing weary of film makers that come up with "cool" dialog and action that make hardly any narrative sense and since I'm becoming sensitive to it I have a very strong negative reaction when I experience it. I can't watch any more Tranformers or G.I. Joe or Fast and Furious films. The best thing I can say is that as a super hero film fan I have checked Suicide Squad off my list and can move on to something else. There are a couple of Super hero films I haven't been able to make myself watch (The 2015 Fantastic Four, Catwoman, Elektra etc) but I'm fine with leaving those boxes unchecked.

I liked it a lot. Plot was fine. It seems to me that they used no more plot than they thought was needed in order to tell the story that they wanted. IMO, that's always a good rule.
In a letter to fans regarding Under the Dome, Stephen King wrote:Listen, I've always been a situational writer. My idea of what to do with a plot is to shoot it before it can breed.
In a cross-thread reference, that exactly points out my beef with the Agents of SHIELD tv show: Too much plot and not enough story.

Guess I'm a liar.

Watched a lot of movies this weekend and my wife hadn't seen Suicide Squad so I watched it for the second time. I was excited because I really wanted to give the film a second chance and a lot of people that I like and value their opinions enjoyed this film.

Honestly I found it laborious.
Spoiler
For some reason the Ghostbusters ending grated on my nerves more than the first time. At least give these hapless characters a few proton packs and let them cross the streams.
Spoiler
Setting up a charismatic but utterly useless character to perform a singular, pivotal action in the climax is becoming a trope that I am fast losing patience with.
For the second time I sat wondering why the Joker was in this film at all. He serves no purpose other than to give HQ some limited back story. Its a really strange choice by the film makers and somewhat off putting.

I know you are supposed to watch films like this with your brain turned off but I actually found it even more insulting than the first time.
Spoiler
This film would have been much more entertaining to me if the group were facing off against a ruthless mob boss or a Central American dictator. You know, an antagonist that guns and knives are actually potent against. Only Diablo and Croc have super powers and only one of those were in any way relevant. Again, what the hell do you need a bunch of people with bats, swords and guns for if your adversary has been ignoring and destroying helicopter gunships? Ugh. The film refuses to play by its own rules if it had any to begin with.
Spoiler
Writing and approving a screenplay that pits these "bad" people (who by the way never do anything bad) against Gozer from Ghostbusters is a special kind of stupid.
SS's 25% Rotten Tomato rating was extremely generous.

Don't hate me when I say I actually enjoyed Green Lantern more, at least GL didn't leave me sitting on my couch, scratching my head asking the empty air "Why? Why did I watch this...again?" Which by the way is entirely my own fault. No one made me do it but I won't do it again.
No force on Earth or Heaven could get me on that island.
Ok. I should never say never.

Can't agree more!!! It was pretty average I thought .. yeah I liked Harlequin.. but the whole domestic violence victim thing/captive adoration .. messed up thing miffed me ... 2hrs I'll never get back! And Wil smith really?

I'd like to see the Ayer cut.

I don't expect the Ayer cut will eliminate how stupid the plot of the film is.

On the other hand the James Gunn redo trailer looks very promising.
