Ooh.
Now that you mention that...
It might help explain why it still seems so utterly effective as a social outlet to some of us:
I, for example, somewhat fear and rather despise Facebook.

But what you said about time-wasting...?
Perish the thought!
...stumbles across this internet... relic. Or rather, empty temple.
nice going with the dramatic imagery (this is me thinking of the precedent atomic set in the "truncated discussions and abandoned conversations" thread - though maybe you haven't seen that one)
It's a bit mines of Moria in here sometimes, but even when the temple is completely empty, there's something alive lurking here. You can feel it.

Let's just hope it's not a balrog.

What I'm hearing from Doc is not wrong however its possible our board is a bit spoiled in that we currently have more active members now than some boards have ever had. Sure its less than the old days but we're far from holding a conversation in a nearly empty tomb.

Not to mention the fact that damn few forums survive for 15(17) years... :D

This is a great place to put your views to the test - a thing we should continually be prepared to do. The range of positions is broad enough to be effective, but the active member base small enough to be personal. By having some awareness of the general positioning of each person who is posting on a topic one subconsciously weights their opinion in terms of its tempering effect on ones own.

3657 registered members. 29 logged in over the last 24 hours but there are dozens who haven't logged in only a week or so. They aren't gone, I'm guessing they've been busy. But some peek in from time to time as guests without logging in. I've done that from time to time so its hard to get a feel for exactly how many active users there are at present. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant may one day be picked up as a film or an HBO series, maybe Netflix. I would imagine things would get a bit busier around here as new people start Googling about the books.

That would certainly lead to a new resurgence, even more than the upcoming new series I would think.

Sorry Av - upcoming new series?

I think the books would actually lend themselves to a well made series (rather than a series of films) rather well.

Interesting Stat: There are 1,112 registered members of Kevinswatch that have not posted a single time. That's over a quarter of the total membership. I find that fascinating.

I am certain that the new books will attract new fans and some will find their way here.

Wow! Didn't even know he was working on one. Do we have any clues as to what the nature of the series is - fantasy, SF, historical?

See Av's link.

And also...

From Tor.com
Set in a visionary new world in the midst of a magical war, the trilogy follows a prince who embarks on a desperate quest to find a sorcerous library that holds the knowledge required to save his kingdom. The princes' journey is told in an intricate tale filled with Donaldson's trademark ingenious worldbuilding, strong characterization, and riveting storytelling.

Book 1 is basically done.

Somebody tell SRD that he needs to mention the Watch in his blurb or bio or something. :D

That would of course be pretty cool especially given we aren't officially affiliated with SRD in any way. 8)

( I thought that Kevin's Watch is the "official fansite" or something. The "discussion" link on the official website brings you here, anway. )

I had forgotten about that though that affiliation is only implied.
If we are the official fan site for SRD maybe it should be displayed more conspicuously, like in big bold letters above the title. :-)

K E V I N S W A T C H

4 OUT OF 5 DOCTORS WOULD RECOMMEND US TO THEIR PATIENTS THAT CHEW EPIC FANTASY GUM

Maybe when we (or if we) change the banner for the Anniversary we can include some verbiage to that effect.
