:LOLS:

Helen Reddy was known for that intentionally feminist statement through that song ;)

But the fact that a scene has women in it, doesnt make it even remotely feminist. If the women are strong characters, then sure you would have a leg to stand on haha .. not that you dont ;) of course ;) :P

But nothing particularly struck me as a particular feminist object .. or a vehicle for advocating for womens rights per se.

I do take your point about there being different iterations of feminism

Liberal Feminism
Radical Feminism
Marxist and Socialist Feminism
Cultural Feminism
Eco-Feminism

There are probably as many different types of feminism as there are types of coffee. And I know little about most of them 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, it's not a particularly feminist film. You could make a stronger argument for Solo being feminist than for this one. It just has a more modern sensibility when it comes to casting and diversity - a trend that has undoubtedly come about because of the influence of feminism over the decades, but doesn't make the product feminist.

Hey, I'm just throwing putty at the wall to see what sticks. I never meant to imply that the Leia-cycle was some ideological manifesto retroactively shoehorned into the pretense of a threadbare elements of a story. That would suck.

It would suck just as much as reading the Luke trilogy as the thin pretense of a space-opera subliminally soapboxing for a masculinist political polemic.

I simply think that viewing the new cycle through a generally Feminist -- not a doctrinaire Feminist -- lens can help make more sense of the narrative choices. The putty sticks, IMO.

Mayhap you'd find the term Gynocentric, being less loaded with ideological baggage, more amenable?

Anyway, at least for now, I've bogarted this thread enough with my thoughts.

Well, finally got around to watching this.

I didn't hate it the way I hated TFA. Still a bit heavy on the call-back to Empire...holding off the assault on the old (secret/hidden) Rebel base etc...but nothing like TFA's remake of A New Hope.

I did think it was a pretty good performance from Mark Hamil. Maybe even his best in Star Wars. Was actually a bit sorry to see him go just when it looked like he was getting some potential.

Some stupid / bad moments, but overall better than I had expected.

It's assumed Hamill will still be appearing in the next one, at least a little.
