I totally cleaned up on anime today. I found a sale at a game store that had some 3/$10 and some 3/$20. Here's what I got:
Fullmetal Alchemist #6: Captured Souls I own most of this set already.($6.66)
Haibane-Renmai: New Feathers I've never heard of it, but thought I'd try it. ($6.66)
Peacemaker: Innocence Lost I've seen this around, but never have watched it. The price was right today. ($3)
Titan A.E.: Special Edition I saw the previews for this, but never made it to the theatre in time to see it. ($3)
Argentosoma: Another Reality I've never heard of it, but again, the price was right. ($3)
I also bought Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ($6.66), which is not anime, but strange and funny all in one. I like the squirrels.
Now I've got all kinds of new anime to keep me busy!

Without a doubt the best animated movie ever made. I absolutely adore this one.Infelice wrote:Im very keen on trying to get a copy of Grave of the Fire Flies (I think thats the title), which comes highly recommended by one who knows. Its a movie not a series and very very sad story.

As mentioned, you can't go wrong with Cowboy Bebop, which has the most amazing music you'll ever hear in an OST (the ten disc box-set is among my most treasured possessions).
Fullmetal Alchemist surprised me not just with the excellent story, but the way it's told with a hard edge, and the fact that it is the best exception to the rule of "subbed > dubbed".
Ghost In The Shell (and Stand Alone Complex) are excellent, but if you get distracted you'll miss a lot of details. It also helps if you've read JD Salinger for SAC. Three more OSTs by Yoko Kanno as well.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
Endut!
Hoch Hech!

On the other end of the scale of course, is Initial D. Did you ever find yourself wondering what the world would be like if everyone in it was either:
- a street racer?
- someone who wants to be a street racer?
- someone who's in a relationship with a street racer?
- a mechanic?
- a car?
- the ghost of a street racer, mechanic or car?
The main thing to remember is that if you decide to watch this show, you will not hear six words without someone mentioning a car, engine part, or racing technique. These people don't talk about anything else.
This is an actual scene from Initial D:
"The eight-six and Kent in the rain, huh?"
"Yeah, the race just started. Kent seems to be pretty sure of himself taking on the eight-six. But it's definitely not going to be as easy as he thinks."
"You got that right. I hope he knows that drifting through a corner at a low speed requires a completely different approach. You know, it's nothing like regular race conditions."
"Yeah, I know. It can get to be pretty hairy out there when you have to push the car to full acceleration."
"What tyre grip can usually compensate for on a dry surface, can be severely limited in wet conditions."
"If you don't shift the weight properly and at precisely the right moment, you'll lose control and crash."
"No doubt it's dangerous driving out there in the rain. It'll be interesting to see how those two do tonight. Take it easy."

Thanks for the warning. . I think I'll avoid this one.Hound Of Chulainn wrote:On the other end of the scale of course, is Initial D. Did you ever find yourself wondering what the world would be like if everyone in it was either:

Ugh, it's like a documentary. Not that there's anything wrong with documentaries, but that's not what I watch anime for.Hound Of Chulainn wrote:"The eight-six and Kent in the rain, huh?"

Just started watching Escaflowne. I'm two episodes in, and it seems enjoyable enough. Escaflowne has given me a first, though.
This is the first time I've found a dub so annoying that I've voluntarily switched to subtitles. Eek. Hopefully the standard of the English voice acting isn't indicative of the general quality.

That bad, huh? How come you're going to watch the rest of it?CovenantJr wrote:Escaflowne has finished (it improved as time went on) and now it's time.
Yes.
It's time.
Time to... Argh, I can barely utter it.
Time to...
...to watch the remaining twenty episodes of Excel Saga.
*gulp, cold sweat, hunted expression*

Oooh. . . forgot to mention that I finally got around to buying Conqueror of Shambala (the movie that should wrap up Fullmetal Alchemist).
It's was just released in English a couple of weeks ago. . . now I get to find out what happens to whom. . . and I saw something very interesting on the cover!
I'll update as soon as I have a chance to watch it.

Not bad. Bad is the wrong word. Excel Saga is lunacy given form. Seriously, no words can describe the deranged nature of that thing. I'm going to watch the rest because I'm undecided as to whether I like it, and a friend tells me it becomes both more insane and more funny as it nears its conclusion.Aelyria Mireiswen wrote:That bad, huh?
