Whew, way cool!!!

And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.
~fly fly little wing, fly where only angels sing~
~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~
...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Since when does the Oath of Peace prevent crying?? LOL
He wouldn't want me to do that anyway.
Alot of good stuff in this thread...whew...I wouldn't even know where to begin to comment.

The Oath of Peace. I've always thought this was an awesome concept. Just thinking of the magnitude of it is daunting. Think on this. You have thousands upon thousands of people, living within this Oath of Peace, serving the Land they love. There is no crime, no poverty, no abuse. People serving each other, and serving the Land, the Earthpower, respecting all life, respecting each other's crafts and cultures. Would that not be amazing in our world? All nations standing up and taking such an Oath, each citizen...doesn't seem possible. But, in the Land, it worked.
Even Covenant, who never even took the Oath of Peace upheld it in the end. Once he had the Despiser at his mercy, he struck no blow. He just held him there, did not even try to kill him (tho I doubt he could have actually). It was peace and joy in that peace that ultimately brought the Despiser down that first time.
Mhoram came into his power thru his Oath of Peace. Taking something as destructive as the Ritual of Desecration and turning it into a power that preserves instead of destroys. I believe the Oath of Peace was power in itself. Not like the Earthpower, but spiritual, inner power. A different kind of strength.
There is mention that the Oath prevented the understanding of Kevin's Lore. Mainly because no such Oath existed in the time of the Old Lords. And the Oath of course was invoked after the Ritual of Desecration with the first of the New Lords. This suggests that maybe the Old Lords were more violent then the New Lords. I don't think they were more violent, but I do believe that they were quicker to react more with violence. Loric constructing the krill to slay the Viles. The New Lords never constructed weapons.
Then there is Kevin. I wonder, if Kevin had taken the Oath of Peace, had lived it as the New Lords did, would he have invoked the Ritual of Desecration? If he had taken the Oath, could he had found the secret to using it to preserve the Land and still bring down Foul? Would he have been able to do it as Covenant did, with the strength of both the power and the Oath? Granted, wild magic played a huge part in bringing down Foul, but in the end, the wild magic only held Foul in place while the sound of laughter and joy diminished him. Could not the power of the RoD have worked in much the same way?
Maybe I'm way off the mark on this one. I just keep coming back to what Mhoram did with that power by combining it with his Oath...
gonna stop rambling now...hehe

One fundamental flaw of the OoP is that it represses emotion.
What, everybody just became morally and ethically much more accountable once they took the Oath? No, there's still the same number of despots and drongos out there as there ever was. Criminals, road ragers, frauds, etc.
A lot of people who once would just have smacked out somebody who annoyed them, were now under an authoritarian regime of enforced self-control.
So where does all that anger go? Where's the release?
I give to you, one Kevin Landwaster.
(ever wondered why they would have let him be High Lord when his surname was Landwaster? What was name before that? It must have been applied after the RoD, or perhaps he was a lumberjack or open cut miner? Perhaps his previous name was Kevin EyingtheLandoffinawaythatmakesitabitnervy)
Do not hurt where grounding is enough
Do not maim where snapping undies is enough
... or whatever this useless decree said
Umm ... that's fine for people who cared about what was 'enough', but many people don't have such a care. People who start brawls at pubs, do you think that they would listen to 'do not start a brawl where feeling humiliated in your backdown is enough'?
The Oath is only good for people who already care about the consequences of their actions. Its like therapy ... you already know what you need and what you want, you just can't necessarily prioritise or pinpoint why its so and why there's uneasiness.
The people yer've gotta watch out for are those who never gave a goshdarn about what was over-the-top reaction. These are the ones to temper. So we install an OoP, and these folks, who blow their stack at various opportunities/triggers, instead now push it down into a cold hard ball of rage.
Nice one, Lords, YOU TWITS!
