Well, the work is challenging, no doubt. I think the reward is well worth it, though. Consider
it a literary experience like no other you'll ever have. At the very least, love it or hate it,
you'll have broadened your mind a bit. Mieville forces you to alter your perception of what
is and isn't possible in a fantasy novel.

And if it isn't your taste, that's fine, too. Just as long as you realize that despite your
personal dislike, the man has a mountain of talent and a wildly creative imagination as
unique as it is prolific.

Deserves a bump!

I'd love to be able to get more 'history' and background to bas-lag. Something like the Silmarillion was to LOTR. There is just so much potential with this world!

Un Lun Dun is coming soon. Can't wait. If though it is not a bas-lag novel, the man's writing is amazing. In fact, it's almost dizzying its that good.

I can see why some people do not like it. But we all have to understand to each their own. :) I'm happy I like writing and authors all over the spectrum because that means I get to enjoy a lot more books! :)

And I can't wait for March 2nd. China is stopping by when he comes through Seattle. He is signing and/or personalizing all of those copies for pre-orderers at The Signed Page.

Meh. I just cannot get into this writer. When I read his books I feel like I have wandered into a bar and some very unattractive 500 pound supernerd has climbed on top of a table and is screaming "LOOK AT ME! I AM SO EFFING COOL! LOOK AT ME!!" while he dances on the table top in his tighty whities.

When I saw a picture of China, I was reminded of Terry Goodkind :( Not a good impression.

I'm gonna try Perdido sometime, though. I'm not gonna make a decision til I've actually read the guy.

Don't know what whities are, but I can understand the sentiment - he does try and make it too 'cool' sometimes. But I still think the stories are just wonderful and well worth checking out.

Heh! In case no one's told you yet, tighty whities are skivvies. Ball-huggers. Fruit-of-the-Looms. Got it?
