Supertramp....? That's not shameful! Crime Of The Century & Breakfast In America are great albums! But, if you look them up on wikipedea, you'll see they're listed as a prog band, which might be embarassing to some.....

but Supertramp is so unlike anything else I like. and so sparkle/shine, I don't know... something.

I love the Hooters and will be buying all of there albums again on cd, when I can find them used. I love the Hooters.

I like Supertramp too. I've never listened to a complete album of theirs, I just know their hit songs. This band knew a thing or two about killer hooks.

And what about the "brains" of Supertramp, Roger Hodgson? Did anyone here buy his solo album In The Eye Of The Storm back in '84? At the time, I loved the big single from it, Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy). I was just in awe of this 9-minute epic and played it over and over. It remains one of the defining songs of the '80s for me.

The second single, In Jeopardy, was catchy, too. I bought the album on CD years later but was mostly disappointed by the rest of the songs.

sgtnull mentioned the Hooters. Ah, some great '80s music memories here. I'm quite fond of their debut album. When I first heard And We Danced on the radio back in '85, it completely enthralled me. The song made me feel nostalgic for something that I never experienced, a false memory, yet it was very powerful. That's the mystery and magic of music. It was another classic song of the '80s for me. Then I heard All You Zombies and that was a mesmerizing song as well, with a strong message. The rest of the album turned out to be good as well, when I finally bought it.

AFAIK, I only know a couple of their songs, which I think are on the same album. And We Danced and All You Zombies. I still like both.

The closest I come to ABBA is ABACAB, which was a pretty good Genesis album.......I love SPinal Tap & Kelly Clarkson, which I probably should be ashamed of, but then again, I'm without shame.

I remember America for their early '80s minor hit, You Can Do Magic. I always found it amusing that for a band (duo?) with such an ambitious name like America, they achieved so little to justify it.

At least the "supergroup" Asia lived up more or less to its all-encompassing name by delivering a mega-selling debut album that also happened to be pretty darn good. I think it's one of the classic rock albums of the '80s. My impression is that hardcore progessive rock fans dismissed Asia as commercial sellouts, but I'm not ashamed to listen to the band.

I think Abba's best efforts album-wise were 1979's Voulez-Vous and 1980's Super Trouper.
