There's a bunch of threads about user items.
The Store, The WGD's, and the Wardrobe is a big one.
But the short answer is: they're not for anything really. It's something to spend your white gold dollars on. You can flash some of them under your avatar, so there's an aspect of "wearing" items to announce what you like - or how much wealth you have.
(Sometimes you win a Watcher of the Year award, but it never appears in the Store, and then you're sad. But that's not really a general issue.)

There doesn't seem to be any way to use the items like trading cards. And on second thoughts, when I think of games involving the winning and losing of cards, or in this case User Items, sooner than later someone will inevitably get very upset if and when they lose their hard earned Items.
Maybe games of that sort are best left alone.

I'd like the Aumbrie to have a half-off sale...after I earn a few more hundred thousand WGD's. (A million WGDs for each item? Geez, that's out of everybody's reach.)

the big ticket items were supposed to be nigh impossible to get. some people have been hoarding wgd's for the task.
