Stressed but also eager.

The stressful bit is I only have two weeks to get my PhD applications in. Bugger.

The bit that makes me eager is I'm going to a 'medieval colloquium' (whatever one of those is) for a couple of days. Food, accomodation and travel are included in the (low) cost, and it's at a nice place, Gregynog Hall:

Wow, that is a beautiful place! Have fun doing whatever it is you are doing there, CovJr.

Today I did some exploring and had a grand old time, until I got lost trying to take the bus home, and ended up at a trainstation outside of the city. Luckily I've figured out the taxis here, but by the time I got back to my apartment I had a migraine. Took some pills and sat in the dark for a while, and it's mostly gone now (several hours later). Looking forward to a beautiful rainy day tomorrow.

I am perplexed. I rented "The Kids Are All Right" from Netflix. Just got done watching it. It was good -- not amazingly, over-the-top, Oscar-worthy good, but good. Anyway. I meandered over to the bonus features, as I am wont to do -- and they're not on this disk. Instead, I get a black screen saying "This DVD is intended for rental. To see these bonus features, own it on DVD or Blu-Ray." Seriously?

This is the first disk I've seen this on. Has anybody else seen it?

Oh -- and I redeemed a Groupon at a high-end shoe store this afternoon and got a pair of shoes for work that totally fit. I am so pleased. :)

Wow, that is pretty strange. I've never seen that. And awesome about the shoes.

I have the day off tomorrow. It will be rainy. I will relax, instead of having adventures.

So very, very jealous, Cov. Any room for stow-aways? All I need is beer and I'm set.

Lots more drama, but I won't elaborate. I'm not going to my mom's on the 10th. That's all for now on that front.

My tattoo is healing up nicely, but it's insanely itchy. I look at it in the mirror about 50 times a day.

Still no luck on the job front. At all. I had applied to Starbucks as a barista, and when I called to follow up they said they weren't actually hiring, despite what their web site said. I smell the feces from a certain bovine persuasion.

I gained a pound since two days ago. I'm a little obsessed with weighing myself about 3 times a day. I'd lost 3 pounds since last week, so I was doing well until now. I wish I didn't have body image issues.

I really want to watch Spinal Tap right now.

I have no idea what kind of tattoo experience you have, so may already know/do this, but slapping itchy tattoos really helps for me. Feels sooo good.

I feel weirded out. Yesterday night some stranger tried to unlock the front door of my apartment. It wasn't locked, he just thought it was his place (I guess.) I opened the door and just stared at him for a minute before saying that he had the wrong apartment. I think he was drunk. Tonight, it happened again. Some DIFFERENT guy just opened our door and looked in, got a freaked out look on his face, and closed the door before I could even say anything. You'd think I'd be ready to say something this time, but I didn't. It's just too weird. I don't want to have to lock my door... and I probably won't. My dog thinks she's an attack dog, so that gets the job done, I guess.

Hey Wadds..I actually did that once..Had a date..went to the address I believed to be correct. Entered after knocking on the door. My date had begun to take a shower..so like..I didn't see her for 15 minutes or so..then she comes out with a robe on and towel ..and...we stare at each other for a few seconds of who the f*%@ are you? Very weird but I broke out laffing and excused myself. Really,,lock your doors.

Wow that's bizzare...I've never even heard of that.

This is not 1950 where you know all your neighbors and your kids play together, this is 2011 where messed up stuff happens EVERY DAY! LOCK YOUR DOOR or I will be forced to beat you when I see you at Elohimfest. Seriously Wadds, now I am worried for you.

I had an ok day, nothing special, nothing amazing. Work was ok, had a managers meeting, sales are down but we have been slow. I got another good review by name on the bizrate survey so that was good. Other than that, just an ordinary day.

Jaz, I sincerely hope your decision to not go to your mother's is because things have improved markedly at your in-laws, not because the husband or his family pressured you to not do so.

I know how tough it can be. My twenty+ year marriage was a hairs-breadth from coming apart a year ago, but I saved it. I made a choice that put me out of work for seven months -- after having been out for nine just a few months earlier.

There is much more to it than that, which is not for posting to the world at this point, but come to Elohimfest and ask...
:goodnevil:

The point is that things can turn around. You have to believe in what you want and what you need...and be willing to both communicate that with honesty and to do what it takes to make your reality happen.

Damn Waddley, lock the bloody door. Are you insane? Just plain stupid? There's a reason they have locks you know. To stop random people just opening themand walking in.

If someone wants to break into your house, they're going to do so regardless of whether or not the door is locked. And if you have a break in, a broken window is just one more thing to worry about. So why do it?

But I don't live in a house, I live in a super secure apartment. And waaaayyyy up top. And I don't live state of constant worry or fear. So I'll lock my door for a while, as long as I remember. And if I get robbed/killed, you all can be the first to say that you told me so. I also have a vicious guard dog. So there.

The only time my family's car got broken into was the one time we didn't lock it. Sometimes people who want to break in and steal stuff just try every door until they find one that opens.
I feel extremely safe in the city I live in now, and the door to the building my apartment is in is always locked, and there's only one other family living in my building (my boss and her husband), but I still lock the door anyway, because it's the smart thing to do.
Better cautious and safe, than not cautious and sorry.

Yeah, I rented that movie from Netflix recently as well, and saw the same damn thing. I really hope this isn't something that is a growing trend, as that will really piss me off. If they think that will increase sales of DVDs, then they are wrong. The extras rarely sell a DVD, and you have no idea how much fun they are until you start watching them. I typically put on the extras as well, and try to judge if they are worth my attention anymore. Blooper reel? Hell, yeah. Making of the effects shots? Seen 'em a hundred times now, and couldn't care less. On rare occasions, the extras are better than the movies, but I only discovered that by actually seeing the bloody things (two memorable examples: In Bruges - the reel of all the curse words strung together back to back, and the blooper reel in Down With Love).
But yeah...seeing that on the DVD made me rant and rave a bit to Carla, who didn't really want to hear about it.

And my opinion of the movie was the same as yours. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but do not understand the praise.

I suspect the nomination was a zeitgeist thing....

And yeah, I'm sure not gonna buy a copy of a movie I only intend to watch once just to see the bonus stuff. The only bonus material I'm really into is the deleted scenes; sometimes the cut is justified, and sometimes you wonder what was going through the director's head.

Anyway: Magickmaker is planning to apply to City Year (if she hasn't done it already). That would give her the experience to apply to the Peace Corps for a youth development position the following year. We'll see how it goes.

And Jaz: What SD said.

And Wadds: Lock your bloody door already. At least for awhile, 'til you can train these random drunks to quit trying your door.

I read this last night, but didn't respond. Then I had serious weird dreams of slapping my tat all night. haha

I got a disturbing text from my mom this morning. My brother's girlfriend dumped him recently, and he's not taking it well. He's been posting very depressing things on FB and she says he won't talk to her or even hug her. She's worried about him doing something very drastic, like suicide. I guess he's mentioned it in the past. Could be nothing, but could be something. I sent him a message on FB, so we'll see if he'll talk to his big sis. He's only 13. I'm so worried about him. :(

More adventures in Jaz's life! /sarcasm

P.S. - I have the Elohimfest bug now. I want to go!

I'm feeling very excited. My first attempt at making homemade applesauce was successful, even though I had almost no ingredients (just the apples and water), and limited tools (spoon, knife, fork, pot, blender that only has instructions in Korean). I now have half a liter of fresh applesauce cooling in my fridge, and what I tasted of it was better than any applesauce I've ever had. Tomorrow I will show my boss what applesauce is (she'd never heard of it!).
Now to eat some chocolate creme oreos and read a bit before bedtime.
What a fabulous day.

So he answered me with a resounding "k thx".

I'd throttle the little shit if I wasn't so worried about him.
